Spider-Noir’s Lamorne Morris Says Spider-Man Spinoff Is “Insane”

Spider-Noir star Lamorne Morris is excited about the upcoming series and thinks fans should be as well. Morris is best known for playing the role of Winston Bishop on the hit series New Girl from 2011 to 2018, but he has also appeared in films like Game Night and Jumanji: The Next Level and will next be seen playing comedian Garrett Morris in the upcoming film, Saturday Night. Earlier this year, he was cast in the upcoming Spider-Man Noir series, titled Spider-Noir.

Morris is set to play the role of Robbie Robertson in the Spider-Verse live-action spin-off that will see Nicolas Cage once again play Spider-Man Noir. As the first live-action Spider-Man series since The Amazing Spider-Man from 1977 to 1979, many fans are curious about what is in store. While speaking with Comic Book.com, Morris revealed that he will be bringing a bit of himself to the role of Robbie Robertson and is excited for fans to see the series, saying it will be unlike anything fans have seen on television before. Morris said:

“Well, I can’t say too much. I’ve been sworn to secrecy. However, I will say it will be an experience unlike anything anyone’s ever seen on television. What they’re doing is insane. It really is insane, and I’m just grateful to have the opportunity to bring this version of Robbie Robertson to life. Folks who know me, you can assume that there’ll be a level of Lamorne in there, which is why they gave me the job. Like I said, I can’t tease too much, but I think fans will be overjoyed with what they see.”

Spider-Noir’s Robbie Robertson Explained

Morris will play Robbie Robertson, a Spider-Man supporting character in the leading 616 Marvel Comics continuity, created by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr. He first appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man” #51 in August 1967 and was one of the first Black characters in comics to play a serious supporting role, as he often acted as the voice of reason to J. Jonah Jameson at the Daily Bugle. The late Bill Nunn played Robbie Robertson in all three Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man films.

Nicolas Cage will reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in a new series. Here is everything you need to know.

Morris’s version of Robbie Robertson is much younger than the comics or previous adaptations have shown; he is described as a hard-working journalist who pursues riskier stories to garner attention. In addition to Morris and Cage, the cast also includes Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges), Li Jun Li (Babylon), and Abraham Popoola (Atlas). Spider-Noir, originally titled Noir before being renamed to market its Spider-Man connection, is being developed by Sony Pictures Television, Lord and Miller Productions, and Amazon MGM Studios and will air on MGM+. This implies it will have a connection to the Sony-produced Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse films. With no release date for Spider-Noir or the animated film Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, it might be some time until fans see this corner of the Marvel Universe come to life.
