The original X-Men cast may still have a future in the MCU, as Halle Berry has teased fans about a potential return in Avengers: Secret Wars. After Marvel Studios promised that Secret Wars would feature well over 60 beloved Marvel heroes, fans have been desperately scrambling to uncover which characters could appear in the movie. It’s safe to assume that most of the pre-established MCU heroes will appear (minus The Eternals — poor sods), but few are expecting the original X-Men to turn up.
Halle Berry first played Storm in Bryan Singer’s X-Men, with many fans praising the picture-perfect casting — despite the character’s questionable line about frogs. The actress made her final appearance as the character in X-Men: Days of Future Past, which passed the torch onto Alexandra Shipp in the rebooted timeline. However, Berry’s tenure as Storm might not be over just yet. Speaking to Josh Wilding, Halle Berry gave a short but promising tease about returning as Storm in Secret Wars. When asked about it, Berry simply answered:
“Perhaps you never know. We’ll find out, fingers crossed.”
While it was far from a solid confirmation, the fact that Halle Berry didn’t outrightly deny the possibility means that Storm could shock audiences with an appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars. This isn’t the first time Berry has addressed returning to one of her superhero roles. Speaking to ComicBook.com in 2022, Berry gave a longer answer about the possibility of returning as either Storm or Catwoman. “I would revisit any of them, actually,” Halle Berry said. The actress said she loved being a part of the big superhero franchises, and is never ruling out a superhero comeback. She continued:
“I loved all of those characters, and I was always grateful to get to play them and be a part of those big franchises, you know? So I would revisit any of them.”
Storm Could Have Appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine
While the large majority of X-Men fans want Halle Berry to make at least one more appearance as Storm, especially now that she would be joining the MCU, it feels strange for her to do it in Secret Wars. The upcoming slate of Marvel Studios movies is packed with big events, and Secret Wars will close out Phase 6. In a film that will have so much at stake for the future of the MCU, having some of the original X-Men cast make cameos could feel oddly distracting.
As a result, it would have been more fitting for Storm to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, a project that some consider to be more cameo-orientated than most superhero movies. Amazingly, Halle Berry wanted to be in the recently released film. The actress simply said that neither Ryan Reynolds nor director Shawn Levy asked for her to appear in the movie. Berry explained:
“”Blake [Lively] asked me one time, I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show, and she said, ‘Would you ever be in my husband’s movie as Storm?’ I said, ‘Yeah, if he asked me,’ but he never asked me.”
