Kristen Bell and Adam Brody admitted they haven’t watched the shows that launched each other’s careers.
Bell starred in Veronica Mars as a teenage private investigator who digs into the lives of the rich and famous in the fictional beach town of Neptune. Brody led another California-focused show, The O.C., which saw him portray the nerdy but still somehow cool Seth Cohen, who invented Chrismukkah.
The Nobody Wants This co-stars stopped by the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, hosted by Bell’s husband, to discuss their upcoming Netflix rom-com series. During their nearly two-hour conversation, the actors admitted they hadn’t seen the hit, early 2000s shows.
“I’ve never seen any episode of The O.C.,” Bell confessed, while Brody and Shepard burst into laughter. However, she did admit she found the actor cute at the time. She added, “Now, did I have a crush on Adam? Of course. Everybody did.”
While this could have been an embarrassing realization, Brody’s in the same boat. “I’ve never seen an episode of Veronica Mars,” he said, which she found shocking. “That one hurts,” The Good Place star noted, “That hurt?” the Fleishman Is in Trouble actor asked. Bell replied, “Yeah, a little bit.”
The podcast host came to the defense of his wife, pointing out that it was fine she hadn’t seen The O.C. but Brody not having watched Veronica Mars was “amoral.” The Frozen voice star explained that she’s always “reticent to admit” she hasn’t seen The O.C. because she has so many friends who were on it.
“I was really close with Rachel [Bilson], I still am,” Bell said of the actress who portrays main character Summer Roberts. Shepard then noted that she was in her 20s at the time and wasn’t really watching a ton of TV because she was “out doing life.”
Brody had the same experience. “I wasn’t in watching a bunch of high school shows. I was going to the Sunset 5 [movie theater],” the Shazam star explained.
“I’ve never seen The O.C., but I adored Adam,” Bell concluded. “Of course. Everybody did. Everybody does. And I continue to.”
