Kevin Smith Names the Gross Scene He Wants The Oscars to Play When He Dies

While a lot of people plan their own funerals to save their families the pain and stress, Kevin Smith has planned his own In Memoriam section at the Oscars to save the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences the trouble — although they might not be happy about his choice. As well as appearing on-screen as Silent Bob for 30 years, Kevin Smith is responsible for directing some of the most beloved, gross-out stoner movies of all-time.Clerks, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Zack and Miri Make a Porno are among some of Smith’s most-beloved and vulgar movies. But, Smith’s chosen scene from Clerks II trumps them all as the grossest, and perhaps the most on-brand choice for his moment.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Smith revealed what movie he wants to be remembered for at the Oscars following his eventual death. The writer, actor, and director says that the Academy will likely use a clip of him as Silent Bob. “For me, presumably, they would pick like some Silent Bob- you know, Silent Bob coming around a corner. Bullsh*t,” the director started. Instead, Smith hopes the Academy will showcase his work as a director, more specifically, a crude scene involving Jay and Silent Bob going to a stage show, a man wearing very revealing leather, and a donkey. He explained:

“This is what I want. In Clerks II, there is a donkey show scene… We show Zak, the sexy stud, go toward the back of the donkey and then we pan up the donkey, tastefully. And just as we’re leaving Zak’s crotch, you see him stick his hand into his pants and sh*t. And as we come up to his face he goes like this and he spits. He hocks this massive loogie into his hand and half of it goes between his two fingers into the purple light and sh*t like that.”

The Clerks II Donkey Scene Sums Up Kevin Smith’s Movies

The Oscars has struggled to make a major impact in terms of ratings over the last few years, and Kevin Smith’s In Memoriam proposal would certainly create the shock value required to bolster ratings. Smith also wants the scene to be shown because it encapsulates his entire filmography. He explained:

“Academy, please use that clip when I die. That says so much about my work. That shot would not exist in a mainstream motion picture — yes, probably in some animal porn or some snuff film — but it would never exist in a movie that played in an AMC, in a multiplex, were it not for Kevin Smith.”

The actor has come face to face with death in the last few years, suffering a severe heart attack in 2018. Since the health scare, the actor has doubled down on his joyful demeanor, and thrown himself once again into making and talking about the movies he loves. For those worried that it would be in poor taste for the Oscars to actually use that clip, Smith set their worries at ease, saying:

“You have my permission to put this up. If anyone’s like ‘Ew, this is in poor taste that they put this up after Kevin Smith died,’ [write] ‘This ain’t in poor taste. Kevin Smith would love this sh*t'”
