Alec Baldwin Mocks Attempt By Rust Prosecutor To Reopen Fatal Shooting Case

Alec Baldwin has been through the wringer ever since the tragic shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust. After the gun in Baldwin’s hands fired, a live round hit Hutchins, claiming her life, and setting the stage for a lengthy legal battle for the actor. Being accused of reckless behavior on set, Baldwin faced a criminal trial for manslaughter, which had a surprise collapse, leading to the case being thrown out.

However, despite the judge dismissing the case with prejudice, things could get complicated for Baldwin if the prosecutor gets her way. Special Prosecutor Kari Morrissey wants to reopen the case, hoping to hold Baldwin accountable for the Rust shooting death. Following this news, Baldwin is reacting to the potential pursuit of new charges, seemingly mocking the notion of heading back into court. According to Deadline, Baldwin, through his attorneys, has commented, saying there is “No basis exists to reconsider the Court’s decision.”

Baldwin’s Lawyers Blast Special Prosecutor

The lawyers could barely contain themselves while speaking about the prosecutor’s apparent hunt for a second chance at justice. Bullets that were previously unknown to the actor or his legal counsel came into the sphere of the case, triggering the judge to throw it out. However, that has not stopped Morrisey from accusing the judge of improperly throwing out the case or pursuing what could be described as a seemingly endless legal pursuit against the actor.

“After she repeatedly violated the State’s disclosure obligations, buried evidence, lied about it at trial, and then lied about her reasons for lying about it, Morrissey has the audacity to ask the Court to order Baldwin to ‘to provide a description and all documents related to when and how they learned of’ evidence that the State suppressed.”

Baldwin maintains the stance and story that he never pulled the trigger on the weapon that led to Hutchins’ untimely death. Several experts on the subject have vehemently denied the logistical probability of Baldwin’s claim regarding how the gun went off, but, as of now, the Rust actor remains a free man.

It is difficult to imagine a more backwards or conceited attempt to blame the victim of the State’s own ‘willful and deliberate misconduct.

Amid all the legal chaos Baldwin may or may not be facing, he will soon be in the public eye in a far more significant way. Baldwin and his entire family will be entering into the world of reality television with an all-new docuseries on TLC. Following the possibility that Baldwin could’ve spent years behind bars, stripping away his freedom, in a post-Rust shooting world, he will put it all on display for the world to see. Besides the reality series, Rust is still slated to be released at some point in theaters.
