October is quickly approaching, and it doesn’t feel like fall is already here. While hectic schedules and other responsibilities may be partially to blame, entertainment has also played a significant role in passing the time, indulging movie enthusiasts on a daily basis with some of the most incredible big-budget films released in theaters.




While we’ve seen a number of blockbusters this year, including Deadpool & Wolverine, Inside Out 2, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, there are still plenty more exciting movies in the pipeline. The following month, in particular, will see the release of some highly anticipated films that fans have been waiting years for. With that in mind, here are the movies that will be released in theaters in October 2024.


Joker: Folie à Deux

Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker is nothing short of a masterpiece, with a haunting performance that earned him an Academy Award. Joker: Folie à Deux, loosely based on DC Comics characters, returns to the big screen five years later as a sequel to the previous film.


Two years after the events of Joker (2019), Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is receiving treatment at Arkham State Hospital, where he meets a fellow inmate, Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga). Through their shared insanity, the couple begins to experience true love, while Joker’s followers begin a movement to free him. Joker: Folie à Deux will hit theaters on October 4, 2024.

A Different Man

A Different Man is an upcoming psychological thriller starring Sebastian Stan in Aaron Schimberg’s breakout film. Initially premiered at Sundance on January 21, 2024, the film has an 84% Rotten Tomatoes rating and follows Edward, an ambitious actor who undergoes facial reconstruction surgery to transform his appearance into a more normal one. However, his dream eventually turns into a nightmare when the role he is meant to play is lost, and he becomes obsessed with reclaiming it. A Different Man will be available in theaters on October 4, 2024.

Terrifier 3

In an era when slasher films have somewhat lost their appeal, at least compared to the sub-genres heyday, the Terrifier franchise, which began in 2016, was a breath of fresh air for movie enthusiasts. Following the enormous success of Terrifier 2 in 2022, a sequel, Terrifier 3, seemed inevitable.

The film, written and directed by Damien Leone, follows Sienna and her younger brother after miraculously surviving Art the Clown’s Halloween carnage in the previous movie. Just as they are trying to rebuild their shattered lives, the killer reappears, intending to turn their holiday into yet another nightmare. Terrifier 3 is set to release in cinemas on October 11, 2024.


The Apprentice

The Apprentice is an upcoming biographical drama film directed by Ali Abbasi and written by Gabriel Sherman. Starring Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump, the film takes place during the early years of the 45th President of the United States, when he was a well-known real estate businessman in New York in the 1970s and the 1980s.


It will also look at his relationship with Roy Cohn, a prosecutor who worked with Senator Joseph McCarthy, and how he helped Trump in amassing wealth and power through deception. The Apprentice will be released in theaters on October 11, 2024.

We Live in Time

We Live in Time is a forthcoming romance film starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, directed by John Crowley, and based on a screenplay by Nick Payne. Initially premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2024, the film received an 89% rating on review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes, indicating a favorable reception. A24 describes the film’s synopsis as follows:


Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias (Andrew Garfield) are brought together in a surprise encounter that changes their lives. Through snapshots of their life together — falling for each other, building a home, becoming a family — a difficult truth is revealed that rocks its foundation. As they embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken, in filmmaker John Crowley’s decade-spanning, deeply moving romance.

Anora

Anora is an upcoming comedy romance film written and directed by Sean Baker that stars Mikey Madison, Paul Weissman, and Lindsey Normington. Following its premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 21, 2024, the film won the prestigious Palme d’Or, only increasing the excitement audiences have for the film.

The dramedy follows Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, who meets and impulsively marries Vanya, an oligarch’s son, hoping to find her own Cinderella ending. However, as the news reaches Russia, Vanya’s parents set out to New York to have the marriage annulled. Anora is set to be released in theaters on October 18, 2024.


Smile 2

Smile is genuinely one of the most frightening horror films to come out in recent memory, and the sequel, which was announced in 2023, is currently one of the most anticipated films of the fall of 2024. Smile 2, written and directed by Parker Finn, follows Skye Riley, a global pop phenomenon on her new world tour, as she begins to experience progressively horrifying hallucinations as a result of an unforeseen tragedy. Will she be able to find a way out of the predicament before it completely destroys her? Smile 2, which stars Kyle Gallner, Naomi Scott, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Lukas Gage, will be available in theaters on October 18, 2024.


Venom: The Last Dance

Venom: The Last Dance has been complete mayhem from the first trailer, catching audiences’ attention and becoming one of the most anticipated films in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Since both of the previous films, Venom (2018) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), were huge blockbusters both critically and commercially, the third film in the series is likely to follow suit.


In the trilogy’s final film, Eddie and Venom are on the run when a mysterious foe who threatens the existence of the remaining symbiotes emerges. As their final dance together closes in, the duo must stand together to confront their greatest hurdle yet. Venom: The Last Dance, starring Tom Hardy, Juno Temple, and Stephen Graham, will be available in theaters on October 25.
