Ryan Coogler Now Working on Several Exciting Projects

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan first gained widespread acclaim with Coogler’s 2013 award-winning feature debut Fruitvale Station, and the duo have since collaborated on the blockbuster Creed and Black Panther franchises. Alongside Sinners, Coogler has several projects in the works, including an adaptation of the graphic novel A Vicious Circle and producer credits on the MCU Ironheart series and the upcoming Black Panther animated spin-off Eyes of Wakanda for Disney+. The series centers on brave Wakandan warriors tasked with recovering dangerous Vibranium artifacts scattered around the world.

Additionally, Coogler is currently working on a reboot of The X-Files for Disney-owned 20th Century Studios. Original series creator Chris Carter revealed in an interview with TheWrap that he is not involved with the project but has given it his blessing.

“20th Century Fox and Disney owns the show. They are free to do with it what they believe. I’m honored that they came to me and asked me, not for my permission, but my blessing.”

Carter also shared that Coogler intends to work with a diverse cast for the science fiction drama series.

“I’m not supposed to be talking about it, according to Disney. But I’ll tell you, yes. I’ve had a conversation with him. Yes, he likes to go with a diverse cast. And he’s got some good ideas.”

The X-Files starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as two FBI agents investigating unusual cases involving paranormal phenomena. The series aired for nine seasons on FOX from 1993 to 2002, returning in 2016 with a tenth season consisting of six episodes. Casting and a release date for Coogler’s reboot have not yet been announced.
