Best Romance Movies Where Enemies Become Lovers, Ranked

Summary

  • Enemies-to-lovers trope shines in rom-coms like “The Hating Game” and “When Harry Met Sally…”
  • Anne Hathaway’s charming rom-com roles in “Ella Enchanted” and “The Princess Diaries 2” stand out.
  • Legendary classic rom-coms like “Pride and Prejudice” and “It Happened One Night” set the standard for the genre.

Within the romance genre, you have your fair share of tropes. The third-act breakup that occurs when the two lovers have a huge fight when the movie is almost over before dramatically getting back together. The scene in which person A runs through an airport to get to person B before they board their plane, and always makes it. Or the two best friends who swear they see each other as siblings but secretly harbor romantic feelings. Tropes any romance lover knows well enough since they’re constantly used in these classic rom-coms.

There’s only one trope that doesn’t ever seem to get old if it’s done right, and that’s the enemies-to-lovers storyline. Two people who genuinely can’t stand each other and bicker more than they have normal conversations, but somehow end up falling in love. Let’s take a look at the best romance movies that depict the enemies-to-lovers trope.
