Amy Adams has a lot of impressive performances and, so far, six of them have been nominated for Oscars. Here they are, ranked.

Adams has been a part of some big blockbuster movies, as well as many smaller projects. Nightbitch certainly seems to be a film that will not exactly bring in Justice League volumes of cash, but it could well be a dark horse of a movie for the actress – or perhaps a black dog. For those intrigued about the story, the novel’s synopsis gives a pretty good idea of how strange things are about to get for Adams’ character. It reads:

“An ambitious mother puts her art career on hold to stay at home with her newborn son, but the experience does not match her imagination. Two years later, she steps into the bathroom for a break from her toddler’s demands, only to discover a dense patch of hair on the back of her neck. In the mirror, her canines suddenly look sharper than she remembers. Her husband, who travels for work five days a week, casually dismisses her fears from faraway hotel rooms.

As the mother’s symptoms intensify, and her temptation to give in to her new dog impulses peak, she struggles to keep her alter-canine-identity secret. Seeking a cure at the library, she discovers the mysterious academic tome which becomes her bible, A Field Guide to Magical Women: A Mythical Ethnography, and meets a group of mommies involved in a multilevel-marketing scheme who may also be more than what they seem.”

Along with Adams, the Nightbitch cast includes Scoot McNairy, Ella Thomas, Garrett C. Phillips, Mary Holland, and Zoë Chao.

Nightbitch Could be a Big Horror Hit for Amy Adams

The horror genre has frequently played on the subject of motherhood, and it seems that Nightbitch is about to join the likes of The Babadook as a movie that can deliver a unique spin on the subject. Written and directly by Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), the film’s release date of December 6, 2024, seems to be putting the film on the backfoot thanks to several prominent releases such as Wicked, Moana 2, Karate Kid, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Mufasa all taking up theatrical real estate at that time.

However, those movies are all firmly in competition to capture the family market. In contrast, Nightbitch will have a pretty clear run for those looking for something a little less child-friendly as the festive holidays approach.
