    success.

Letitia Wright isn’t ready to hang up the mantle of Black Panther just yet. The actress, who stars as Shuri in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), appeared on The View and provided an enticing update on a potential Black Panther 3.

Wright appeared on the ABC daytime talk show The View to promote the film she produced, Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot. The conversation eventually turned to her role as Shuri, and when asked about a possible return to the MCU, she paused to collect her thoughts, which brought surprised gasps among audience members expecting the actress to make an announcement. She caused a buzz among them when she said:

There are a lot of things coming up.

With Black Panther 3 still not officially announced, fans wondered if Wright would ever appear as Shuri again. In 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shuri assumed the mantle of Black Panther after the passing of T’Challa (and the real-life death of actor Chadwick Boseman), and led Wakanda into battle against Namor and the warriors of his underwater kingdom. Wright voiced her hope of a continuation of the Black Panther storyline in the MCU:

Let’s just say… I would like to continue with Shuri. She’s one of my favorite characters, such a blessing, honestly, I kid you not. I’m so grateful for her.

The Future of Shuri and Black Panther

While Marvel Studios has not yet committed to more cinematic adventures with Shuri, a new film would appear to be a given, based solely on the character’s popularity. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was a smash hit upon release, grossing over $850 million worldwide. Wright won rave reviews with her portrayal of Shuri, bringing a fierceness to the Black Panther character that left fans hoping for more.

With the current state of the MCU in chaotic upheaval, bringing back Black Panther would seem to be a no-brainer. While an appearance in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars is likely, a third film for the character would be welcomed by fans who have been disappointed by recent MCU offerings.

Perhaps one of the best ensembles in the MCU, let’s get to know the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever cast a little better.

Wright appeared as Shuri in the four MCU films, including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. She revealed that Wakanda Forever was going to feature both Shuri and T’Challa as Black Panthers, but when Chadwick Boseman succumbed to cancer unexpectedly, the film changed to focus on Shuri becoming Wakanda’s leader. The character was first introduced in the Black Panther comic books in 2005, and was created by writer Reginald Hudlin and artist John Romita Jr.

In addition to producing Sound of Hope, Letitia Wright is starring in the new film Aisha, and recently appeared in the western Surrounded. Her next starring film, a true-life story titled In the Shadows, is currently in production.
