The painful longing has finally come to an end as Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2 is now gracing our Netflix homepage and allowing us to drool over Penelope and Colin’s friends-to-lovers romance. Picking right up where the carriage scene left the audience craving more, Part 2 drops a spicy love bomb, aka the mirror scene, and takes fans on even shakier roads. Polin’s steaminess aside, this second part also dives deeper into the love life of other Bridgerton siblings, and it is a whirlwind for sure.

Bridgerton Season 3’s Part 2 is undoubtedly packed with thick storylines, some of which already lay a fruitful foundation for future romances and more. While some are rather unsurprising, others turned out to be far more shocking. The last episode of Part 2 casually left it off with a jaw-dropping moment, encouraging the viewers to come up with their own interpretation. So, without further ado, let’s look at a massive hint about a future storyline and how it might affect the audience.

Francesca’s Massive Plot Twist

Throughout the third season of Bridgerton, audiences get to follow along as Francesca and Lord Kilmartin grow a bond and rather quickly decide that they would make a good match. After their wedding, they both wish to settle in his home in Scotland, far away from the hectic noise, societal events, and insane expectations. With the growing pressure of finding and stepping into her own path, Francesca’s sister Eloise asks permission to join the newlyweds and finally see more of the world than just Mayfair. Their plans in place, in one of the last scenes of the season, Francesca and Eloise meet their fourth travel companion, Lord Kilmartin’s cousin, Michaela Stirling.

This name might ring a bell for bookworms who have indulged in Julia Quinn’s books on which the series is based. The only striking difference is that, instead of the stunning Michaela, Francesca, Eloise, and the readers are introduced to the dashing Michael. While this might not seem to make such a huge difference, it is a massive hint for a future storyline regarding Francesca’s love life.

Viewers probably picked up the confused, shocked, surprised, and even slightly smitten expression all unfolding on Francesca’s face within one moment when she first laid eyes on Michaela. While this could have been interpreted in various ways, from simply being in awe of her beauty to finding comfort in having another laid-back woman joining her side, readers of Bridgerton will know that there is something else in the bush.

Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2 Ending, Explained

The second half of Bridgerton has just dropped on Netflix, and expectations have been blown out of the water. Here is how it all goes down.

In fact, viewers witnessed a moment that Violet Bridgerton herself had already described: her heart-to-heart with Francesca. She explains that her love for her husband, Edward, came quickly and without prior warning but emphasizes that Francesca taught her that there is beauty in the slow approach. She recalls that she barely remembered her name, awkwardly stumbling over her own words.

While Violet’s words seem at first as though they are just a precious moment between a mother and a daughter, they certainly become increasingly meaningful when Francesca meets Michaela Stirling. Like Violet at a young age, Francesca is at a loss for words when their eyes meet, forcefully trying to reveal her name. The only more significant hint that an unexpected love could soon shake Francesca’s world would be Hyacinth making another of her eerily striking predictions regarding her siblings’ love lives.

Just like that, Francesca Bridgerton’s storyline has changed from being relatively straightforward and not requiring many words to a whole ocean of possibilities and excitement. There is no doubt that many celebrate the change of character from Michael to Michaela, allowing for an exciting exploration of queer love and seeing if it will stay behind the doors of the Kilmartin house or enter the depths of the rule-abiding ton.

There is a lot to explore and significant details to carefully work out, but not everyone is too keen on discovering this possible change. There is a simple yet profound reason for this: even though it doesn’t necessarily seem like it in Bridgerton Season 3, Francesca’s storyline was meant to be one of the most touching and relatable for many women out there.

The Deeper Meaning Behind Bridgerton’s Costumes That Audiences Might Have Missed

Everyone knows clothes are a method of self-expression, but have you dug deep into what the Bridgerton costumes mean?

Another spoiler alert! First and foremost, unlike Violet’s initial belief, the books reveal that the marriage between Francesca and Lord Kilmartin is a happy one, as they spend their time together as Earl and Countess in Scotland. However, their loving union finds a devastating end when Lord Kilmartin passes away and leaves behind a childless Francesca. During her marriage, Francesca faces numerous hardships ranging from infertility to miscarriage and is left without an heir and unsure of herself when her husband dies.

It certainly is a tragic storyline, but it gives the opportunity to explore heavy yet incredibly relevant and important themes such as loss and infertility, which many women can connect to and are still regarded as taboo in many ways. The fundamental argument against introducing Michaela Stirling is that the chance to pick up these topics related to Francesca is somewhat lost.

This Bridgerton Character Might Have Been a Better Choice

In the context of Francesca’s sexuality, her older brother Benedict plays an important role, at least to the fans of the show. Amid the entire family, he has always been portrayed as a more open-minded, dancing-out-of-the-row type of person who doesn’t think much of societal norms and certainly dislikes the expectations that come with them.

As an aspiring painter in Bridgerton Season 2, fans got to know him as someone who likes trying out new things, and this exact character trait also stretched into his sexuality. Whether it is conversations with men and women alike, which are packed with an underlying sexual tension, or him going out and expanding his horizon, Benedict’s character arc has always been the closest to introducing a queer storyline, and Season 3 gave a first taste of what his future could look like. Keeping in mind how the show has already hinted his interest in the same gender in Season 2 and has now finally made him a queer character in Season 3, Benedict would have been the most obvious character with which to explore the wonderfully wide spectrum of sexuality.

It remains to be seen whether Benedict’s sexuality will still be explored in greater detail and if the plot twist in Francesca’s storyline will eventually appeal to the audience and win them over. Hopes are still high, however, that Bridgerton won’t disregard substantial themes such as infertility and still manage to incorporate them in a meaningful way. With the torch soon being passed on by Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan, or shall we say Colin and Penelope, more information about the next season’s main character and central, possibly queer, storyline could soon be revealed. Bridgerton Season 3 is streaming now on Netflix.
