Deadpool Becomes Marvel Studios’ Second Highest-Grossing Superhero

Deadpool, the profanity-spewing character and expert on breaking the fourth wall, continues to break records months after the release of his biggest movie to date. After the groundbreaking success of the latest installment in the franchise, Deadpool & Wolverine, the red-suited superhero has become Marvel’s second-highest-grossing character. Not bad for a superhero who’s shown up in only three films of a universe of more than 30 entries.

Deadpool & Wolverine has made enough money at the box office to put Deadpool near the top spot of the list of commercially successful superheroes. 2024 was Deadpool’s year, and this was proven with a risky project that was a first in many respects. However, the one thing that remained was the raunchy character’s ability to give audiences exactly the kind of in-your-face anarchy that they came for. Luckily, it paid off, and audiences understood the intention of Ryan Reynolds and company to make Deadpool 3 a refreshing crossover. If we add the many, many cameos and references to popular culture in general, we get a fan-service spectacle that’s still selling tickets even almost two months after it premiered.

Deadpool is the second most successful superhero in the Marvel Universe after Ryan Reynolds’ character cashed in a total of $2.8 billion across his three movies. The Deadpool franchise is only topped by Spider-Man, the Tom Holland version, which has gathered up to $3.9 billion at the global box office. The list continues as follows:

Franchise

Total Earnings

Spider-Man (MCU Only)

$3.9 billion

Deadpool

$2.8 billion

Thor

$2.7 billion

Wolverine

$2.4 billion

Iron Man

$2.4 billion

Spider-Man across all of his big screen iterations has amassed an untouchable $10.2 billion between Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland’s versions.

Deadpool & Wolverine Leads the Ranks of the Most Successful R-Rated Movies of All Time

The record-smashing third film in the Deadpool franchise is the “most Deadpool film” there is. It’s not very serious in tone, and it’s exactly what audiences were expecting after previews showed the titular character indulging in his usual shenanigans and making fun of everyone in the universe it’s set in.

Deadpool & Wolverine was Disney’s “gamble” at releasing a high-profile R-rated film. It quickly became the most successful R-rated film of all time, taking the title previously held by 2019’s Joker. Deadpool is not only a Marvel elite member. He’s also an R-rated universe elite member, as the character has three of the top five spots in the list of the most successful films that may have “material which may be unsuitable for children under the age of 17.”

Deadpool & Wolverine
is still playing exclusively in theaters. No streaming date has been announced yet.
