Thanks to Super Bowl LVIII, we finally got our first real look at the upcoming MCU sequel, Deadpool 3, or, as it is now titled, Deadpool & Wolverine. With it came the return of Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, aka, the Merc With a Mouth, aka Deadpool, who will now know will be dragged into the multiverse of madness by the Time Variance Authority (TVA). Of course, eagle-eyed Marvel fans have since taken to social media to reveal all manner of teases, Easter eggs, and other intriguing titbits, and you can check just some of them out below!

“Everyone deserves a happy ending,” the trailer declares, and clearly Wade Wilson, with the character surrounded by his friends and family on his birthday. The opening of the trailer gives us our first look at several returning characters and cast members, including Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and more.

The quaint celebrations are quickly interrupted when the TVA show up to drag Deadpool off on another adventure. During which time, Deadpool hints at the R-rating that Deadpool & Wolverine will have…while breaking the fourth wall and mentioning Disney, of course.

Taken to the same TVA headquarters that audiences have seen in the likes of Loki, Deadpool is then brought fully into the MCU, as he is introduced to The Avengers. The footage offers our first look at Succession star Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, a TVA agent, who shows Deadpool scenes from the likes of 2012’s The Avengers and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Amazed by what he sees, Deadpool cannot help but salute when Chris Evans’ Captain America comes on screen…

Then we get something that superhero movies don’t do anymore (sadly), a quick-cut, zoomed-in superhero suit-up scene. Complete with spank!

A Return to Avengers: Age of Ultron & Hugh Jackman as Patch?

It’s here that the clues, Easter eggs, and more truly begin, as Deadpool is thrown headfirst into the multiverse. Bringing Avengers: Age of Ultron back into the fray, a lengthy action sequence appears to be set in the same place as the opening of the Avengers sequel, with some even speculating that we could see (at least) some of the original Avengers stars return.

“Your little cinematic universe is about to change forever,” as Deadpool strolls into more madness, and we catch a glimpse of what is expected to be one of several Wolverine variants. Those in the know have claimed that this will be Patch, a version of Logan who wore an eyepatch and a white suit while living undercover.

Hugh Jackman, who will of course return as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine, has stated before that his role will be a dual one, but many have theorized that some of the variants could be played by other actors.

The new Deadpool 3 trailer reveals glimpses at other returning characters along the way, including several connections to Loki season 2. The footage features a tease of the possible return of Victor Timely (though Jonathan Majors being involved is unlikely), and the return of Alioth, trans-temporal entity that serves as the guardian of the Void. Meaning that Deadpool really will find himself exploring every avenue of the multiverse…

We also get a glimpse of a returning X-Men star: Aaron Stanford as Pyro. Introduced back in 2003’s X2, Stanford is sporting a very different look to what we’ve seen before and is likely to be just one of many cameos from Fox’s X-Men franchise.

Finally, the trailer ends in what looks to be a collapsing Fox universe, with fans heaping praise on Deadpool’s reloading skills during the sequence.

A destroyed “20th Century Fox” sign can be seen behind Deadpool (if you can take your eyes off the action, that is). Thankfully, some fans can, and have spotted a tattered copy of a “Secret Wars” comic on the ground. The sixth Avengers movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, is currently due for release in 2027, with the comic no doubt a hint that Deadpool will play a major part in the comic book movie epic.

Finally, we know what you really want, so here’s our first glimpse at Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine, yellow-and-blue suit and all.

Deadpool & Wolverine
is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 26, 2024, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
