Deadpool & Wolverine gave comic book fans something they’ve been desperate for since Hugh Jackman first played the character over 20 years ago… a comic book-accurate Wolverine. However, while Jackman finally got to wear the iconic yellow suit in Deadpool & Wolverine, the true comics accurate version caught a lot of fans off guard. As well as sporting retractable adamantium claws and pointy hair reminiscent of Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, the real Wolverine is, as the internet has dubbed him, a “short king,” clocking in at 5’3″. To bring the shorter version to life on screen, director Shawn Levy hired a body double, and super-imposed Hugh Jackman’s face on top.
The body double for the short Wolverine has finally been revealed online, and fans absolutely love him. Professional bodybuilder and actor Luke Bennett took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes look at his Deadpool & Wolverine costume. Bennett went uncredited for his body double work in the movie, but he’s finally receiving recognition from audiences after making the post. As well as the latest MCU movie, Luke Bennett has also appeared in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and The Northman.
Underneath the photos, Bennett described working on the film as a dream job, praising stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy for wanting to bring the short version of Wolverine to life on screen. Bennett said:
“This is to everyone that told me when I was growing up, being part of the X-Men wasn’t a real job … What a wild f***ing ride ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ is!
Grateful to be a ‘small’ part of this amazing film and be able to help bring comic book accurate Wolverine to the big screen!
The biggest thank you to [Levy, Reynolds, and Jackman] for this opportunity — the patience, and being the legends that you are! You guys made me feel right at home on set and I can’t thank you guys enough! (I almost died of nerves).”

What Next for Deadpool & Wolverine?
Deadpool & Wolverine is an unprecedented R-rated success. The movie is the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time (recently claiming the top spot from Todd Phillips’ Joker). Success like that almost comes with the Hollywood guarantee of another sequel in the future. But will Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman return to play the characters once again?
Hugh Jackman has neither confirmed nor denied his stance on playing Wolverine again in the MCU. Deadpool & Wolverine ends with Wolverine attending Wade Wilson’s party, surrounded by his friends and Laura (Dafne Keen). The character’s future in the MCU has been left wide open. Marvel fans know that Jackman had previously confirmed his retirement following Logan, and shocked everyone when he reprized the role in Deadpool & Wolverine. As a result, even the actor has joked that he can’t trust himself when it comes to retiring the character.
As for Ryan Reynolds, the future might not be so optimistic. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ryan Reynolds denied wanting any involvement in Deadpool 4, if and when that movie is greenlit by Marvel Studios. The actor, who’s played Deadpool on-screen for 15 years (if you count X-Men Origins: Wolverine), says his family will disown him if he signs up for a fourth installment. Reynolds said:
“Oh god no. My wife and children will divorce me. Jimmy, I have no prenup with any of them. I will be capital ‘B’ broke, and in turn, probably then doing Deadpool 4 ’cause I’d need the money.”
