Every Movie Coming to Prime Video in September 2024

September has little on offer for original movies through Prime Video, except the Joseph Gordon-Levitt-led crime-drama Killer Heat, which drops at the month’s end. However, the platform is adding many existing titles, from cult classics to big Hollywood hits. Those who are already itching for Halloween and a month of horror can get an early start with highly re-watchable titles like Army of Darkness, Child’s Play, Drag Me to Hell, Killer Clowns From Outer Space, and Jeepers Creepers, to name but a few.

Prime Video is adding so many new titles that it is hard to pick out the highlights; check the list at the bottom to see what catches your attention. Here are a few titles we think you should make time for in September.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

Streaming on September 1

A gothic horror film based on Bram Stoker’s classic 1897 novel, Dracula followed several characters centered around the enigmatic Count Dracula. This includes exploring the origin story of Dracula, as played by Gary Oldman, Jonathan Harker’s (Keanu Reeves) meeting with the Count and subsequent conflict when the vampire sets his eyes on Mina (Winona Ryder), and the appearance of Professor Abraham Van Helsing (Anthony Hopkins) to end Dracula’s reign of terror.

Francis Ford Coppola re-invented the iconic vampire for the modern era with 1992’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The movie was a massive success, grossing over $215 million against a $40 million budget and winning three Academy Awards in costume design, sound editing, and makeup. Decades later, the dark visual style, captivating performances, and thematic depth are still impactful. While out at the beginning of the month, the movie could make a perfect precursor to an upcoming horror viewing in October. Bram Stoker’s Dracula is streaming on Sept. 1.

Snack Shack (2024)

Streaming on September 3

Set in Nebraska City during the summer of 1991, Snack Shack follows two friends, AJ and Moose, with a knack for hustling and swindling to fund their parties and other investments like bootlegging. When their parents discover the duo’s shady dealings and their beer stock is destroyed, they decide to try a new legitimate business and purchase the local snack stand at the pool. However, the stand is not the instant moneymaker they expected, and the two have to work hard to get it up and running. Issues are complicated when they both fall for outspoken military brat Brooke.

Snack Shack is a throwback to rude and crude comedies of the 1990s, with the type of boner and drug-fueled humor that would feel commonplace in an Animal House or Porky’s. Yet what makes the movie stand out among the cheap thrills of the previously mentioned is that it has a lot of heart and explores the precarious period of adolescence in all its awkwardness and profundity with the grace of a John Hughes script. Director Adam Reheimer may be the best comedic director of our time, with Snack Shack following his best work to date, the delectably dark punk-rock-fueled movie Dinner in America. Snack Shack is streaming on Sept. 3.

Paddington 2 (2018)

Streaming on September 26

Following the first film’s events, the titular Paddington Bear lives happily with the Brown family in Windsor Gardens. When he purchases a unique pop-up book about London as a 100th birthday gift for his Aunt Lucy, the charming bear begins a series of odd jobs to save up. However, when Paddington witnesses the book stolen one night and takes chase, he is mistaken for the culprit and thrown in jail despite the store owner and Browns’ being sure of his innocence. The bear befriends a grumpy chef and slowly becomes popular at the prison, leading to a great escape and an attempt to clear his name.

If you have not seen the first film in the franchise, you can still check out Paddington 2 on its own; it is often considered the best entry. Still, both films are considered modern classics with a sweetness that has made them heralded by fans and critics alike. If you want a heartwarming, light, comedic romp you can share with your whole family, you can’t go wrong with any Paddington movies. The first Paddington movie is also on Prime Video, and with Paddington in Peru set for release in January 2025, it is the perfect time for fans to revisit both. Paddington 2 is streaming on Sept. 26.
