Every TV Show on Disney+ in March 2024

With the new year in full swing, the ever-expanding Disney+ catalog only continues to grow, with new films and TV shows joining the service on a regular basis. Despite several months remaining before the next Marvel series debuts, there are still some exciting new options to choose from.

From the returning adventures in a galaxy far, far away to the revival of a cult cartoon about mutants, we’re looking at the most exciting TV series joining the Disney+ library in March.

Queens

Streaming on Mar. 5

For those who love all forms of wildlife, Disney+ has brought you an early Christmas present. Produced by National Geographic, Queens is one of the biggest nature documentary undertakings ever, with reportedly over three hundred hours of footage captured of different animal communities around the world. The series, airing in six parts, specifically focuses on female-dominant species like hyenas, elephants, lemurs, primates, insects, and orcas and the patterns of feminine behavior within them.

Additionally, the show is said to explore the title of “queen” within these species, how those within fight their way to the top, and if they should succeed, how they struggle to hold onto their power. According to National Geographic’s senior vice president of development and production, Janet Han Vissering, “We’re accustomed to a narrative where the male animal voice often outshines that of the misperceived ‘gentler’ sex. In Queens, females drive the story.” If the series lives up to this promise, it could well be the rare nature documentary that captures the larger public’s imagination, and it could provide a fascinating insight into the ways in which different societal structures within different species define their daily lives. Queens is streaming on Disney+ on Mar. 5.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch – Season 3

Continuing, Every Wednesday Night on Disney+

One of the most beloved corners of the Star Wars universe will be coming to a close this year. The final season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch recently premiered, and every Wednesday night in March will see a new episode debut. The series, set during the rise of the Galactic Empire, follows a group of clone troopers whose genetic mutations prevent them from being brainwashed and partaking in the extermination of the Jedi Order and their efforts to covertly fight back against the Empire.

Season 2 ended on a massive cliffhanger, which saw the Empire capture the female clone Omega, and as such, the show’s concluding season will primarily focus on Clone Force 99’s operations to rescue her. However, the most exciting prospect of the season is the surprising return of fan-favorite character Asaaj Ventress, Count Dooku’s secret apprentice from The Clone Wars, presumed dead during the events of the canon novel “Dark Disciple.” The first three episodes of season 3 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch started streaming this month, and new episodes will be uploaded every Wednesday throughout March.

X-Men ’97

Streaming on Mar. 20

Before the comic-book movie boom of the 21st century, fanboys mostly got their superhero fix from early Saturday morning cartoons, and from this era emerged some of the best cartoons of all time (chiefly Batman: The Animated Series). But one of the best and most iconic of the lot was X-Men: The Animated Series, which brought Professor Charles Xavier and his school of mutants to life so vividly that, for many, it remains the definitive version of the team, even after over two decades worth of films. In fact, the cartoon was actually more of an inspiration for the movies than the comics were.

Thanks to consistently high viewership on Fox Kids, the series ended up lasting longer than initially planned, but alas, it came to an end after five seasons. But in an era in which TV revivals have become commonplace, everyone’s favorite mutants return in X-Men ’97. The show picks up right where the original cartoon left off, with the shocking death of Professor X and Magneto now a part of the X-Men.

All the trailers look incredibly promising, boasting the original’s classic art style alongside smoother animation and technological advancements, and there’s the potential to adapt several fan-favorite comic storylines. Most refreshingly, the creative team has confirmed that the revival will not connect to the MCU and will thus be allowed to function entirely as its own entity. We can’t wait. X-Men ’97 debuts on Mar. 20.

Renegade Nell

Streaming on Mar. 29

A packed month for Disney+ will close out with the debut of Renegade Nell, a brand-new adventure series helmed by Sally Wainwright, the creator of the acclaimed British crime drama Happy Valley. The period adventure show, taking place in 18th-century England, focuses on a young woman (Louisa Harland of Derry Girls) framed for murder and the subsequent outlaw work that helps her become one of the most notorious fugitives in the country. However, she soon finds herself in a much greater adventure than anticipated, kickstarted by the arrival of the magical spirit Billy Blind (Nick Mohammed of Ted Lasso fame).

All of this points to a show with a lot of promise; the talent behind and in front of the camera speaks for itself, and a sort of Robin Hood reimagining seems like an enticing prospect for younger viewers; it looks like the rare youth-oriented series that doesn’t speak down to its audience. We’ll see if Renegade Nell lives up to the hype when all eight episodes start streaming on Mar. 29.
