There’s a certain je ne sais quoi about Emily in Paris. The quirky romantic comedy-drama is one of those so-bad-it’s-good guilty pleasures that’s chocked full of rom-com tropes, Parisian stereotypes, and over-the-top characters. But that’s also a big part of its charm. The show’s third season streamed way back in December 2022, which means fans have been waiting a year and eight months for the next season. It will be delivered in two parts, with the first five episodes on August 15, 2024, and the next five on September 12, 2024.

Given how much time has passed since the third season ended, fans may have forgotten everything that happened before the fourth season.

What Happens to Emily in Season 3?

Season 3 began when Emily (Lily Collins) was in a precarious position: would she continue working for Madeline (Kate Walsh) or stay in Paris and work directly for Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu)? Rather than decide, Emily continued to work for both, afraid of letting down the very pregnant Madeline. Adding insult to injury, she also upset Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) with her indecisiveness about him, and they unofficially broke up, though that didn’t last long.

With everything at Savoir up in the air, Sylvie finally gets her way and opens her own business called Agence Grateau. Emily finally decides to stay in Paris, but since Sylvie fired her for working both sides, she’s officially unemployed. Emily spends her days recording her every move on social media and even, at one point, takes a job at Gabriel’s (Lucas Bravo) restaurant as a waitress (though that quickly goes haywire). Eventually, Sylvie realizes Emily’s value and reluctantly hires her back.

Emily in Paris Season 4 Continues Its Problematic Chosen One Trope

Emily in Paris returns for its fourth season on August 15, and it may continue a problematic trope.

Emily is back at the top of her game professionally. When Antoine’s (William Abadie) latest perfume scent is ruined due to a manufacturing mistake, Emily quickly devises a plan: release the good batch as a limited edition to maximize profits and spark interest. But her biggest move is devising a plan that helps Pierre Cadault (Jean-Christophe Bouvet) retain his business, stopping Nicolas (Paul Forman) from firing him and replacing him with Grégory Elliott Duprée (Jeremy O. Harris). After Cadault’s accident (being hit by a motorbike taxi), she suggests they make people believe he has died so he can appear at the launch event and announce his “rebirth” along with his parting of ways with JVMA.

What’s Going on With the Emily, Gabriel, Camille Love Triangle?

The love triangle between Emily, Gabriel, and Camille (Camille Razat) heats up as things become rocky between Gabriel and Camille. When Emily spots Camille kissing her artist friend on a rooftop at a party, it makes things even more awkward. As it turns out, Camille has been having an affair with the mysterious and seductive Sofia (Melia Kreiling) behind Gabriel’s back.

When Emily and Gabriel end up on an unofficial date at a fancy restaurant after Alfie is called away and can’t attend, it’s clear there’s still a spark between them. This is solidified further when the pair are alone together again after going out with Mindy (Ashley Park and Nicolas (Paul Forman). They visit a balloon exhibition where they release all inhibitions and simply enjoy a night of being free. But Gabriel also gets candid with Emily and tells her that his relationship with Camille is not going well. Eventually, he declares his love for her and his fear that Camille will break up with him.

Emily in Paris Season 4 Moments We Want to See Happen

Here are all the open arc storylines that need to be developed in the next season of the Netflix hit series Emily in Paris.

But after Camille returns from her business trip in Greece, clearly having broken things off with Sofia, Gabriel suggests they would be perfect for Grateau’s latest romance campaign needs. The client wants to pay a couple to film their live proposal. Gabriel agrees to do it, planning to propose to Camille, which Emily has mixed feelings about. Nonetheless, he goes through with it.

At their engagement party, Gabriel decides he wants to get married then and there, much to everyone’s shock. But before they can share their vows, Camille stops him, reveals that she knows, and feels deep down in her gut that he loves Emily and wants to be with her. Most shockingly, Camille also reveals that she’s pregnant, which is why Gabriel desires a rushed wedding.

Where Do the Other Characters Stand?

With Alfie’s new job as CFO for Antoine, he’s working more closely with Emily and Gabriel. His relationship with Emily was rocky at times, driven by his refusal to tell his family about her. But the pair were on solid ground towards the end. Alfie and Gabriel had even become close friends. However, after Camille’s speech, Alfie breaks things off with Emily, believing something is happening between her and Gabriel. Even if he thought there wasn’t, he still felt like a second choice.

As noted, Sylvie was busy running her own business and brought much of the team on to work with her, including Emily. Everyone is getting along swimmingly, though Julien (Samuel Arnold) has shown signs of jealousy towards Emily. Her campaign ideas always seem to take precedence over others. Emily also repeatedly, though unintentionally, keeps hijacking his clients and jobs, resulting in Julien falling into the background. Based on the Season 4 trailer, his seething about this may finally come to a head.

What We Know About Emily in Paris Season 4 So Far

With Gabriel and Camille broken up, Alfie ending things with Emily, and Camille expecting Gabriel’s child, Emily in Paris left off with major drama. The season has been confirmed to be focused on Emily trying to reconcile her strong feelings for Gabriel and Alfie. Gabriel, meanwhile, will be dealing with his feelings for Emily, his pending fatherhood, and his continued quest for that Michelin star. But secrets, reads the season’s official synopsis, “threaten to undo everything they’ve dreamed of.” Since Alfie is working with Gabriel on the financial side and Emily continues to work with Camille’s family business, the trio’s lives are inextricably intertwined. If nothing else, this is bound to make their personal and professional lives awkward.

Sylvie, meanwhile, will be faced with a big dilemma relating to her past while things at Agence Grateau are far from running smoothly. With Mindy now entered into the Eurovision contest, she must prepare with her band for the biggest opportunity of her life. She also has a love triangle of her own with Benoit, who she’ll be working more closely with again, and Nicolas. One appeals to her old self, while the other is a reflection of her artistic nature.

Emily in Paris: Best Season 3 Fashion Moments, Ranked

Here are the best fashion moments from season 3 of Emily in Paris.

Collins, Bravo, Park, Razat, Laviscount, Leroy-Beaulieu, Arnold, Gouery, and Abadie are all confirmed to appear in this season. Darren Star, the showrunner, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that fans will see more of Sofia as well, which likely means that Gabriel eventually finds out about the affair and that the relationship might not be over. Thalia Besson (Dangerous Waters) has also been confirmed as a new cast member, playing a character named Genevieve, and Italian actor Eugenio Franceschini (Gloria) will play someone named Marcello.

There are rumors that Kim Cattrall could appear as she was at the show’s third season premiere event. Since her character from Sex and the City had moved to London to work in public relations, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility. But Star told Glamour that he is not a “big believer in just stunt casting for the purpose of stunt casting.” But he added that it could happen if it were a role “that feels like it’s the right thing for her to do,” noting that she would “bring some great energy into the series.”

“What I can tell is we have more fun, more fashion, and, of course, more drama in store for you all,” Collins advised in a video teaser shared during Netflix Tudum’s fan event. “Emily is going to have to decide if everything she’s ever wanted is really what she needs, and while Emily’s heart will always remain true to Paris, her life takes some unexpected twists this season. Don’t be surprised to find her on a Roman holiday.” Stream Emily in Paris on Netflix.
