The intrepid archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones will always be one of the Harrison Ford’s most successful characters, but it turns out that such success is not always a good thing. Discussing the incredibly influential career of composer John Williams with Variety, Ford revealed something interesting about the character, and his iconic theme…it follows him wherever he goes. Even when he’s having a colonoscopy.
“As I often remind John, his music follows me everywhere I go — literally. When I had my last colonoscopy, they were playing it on the operating room speakers.”
Arguably, much like Indy does when he goes tomb-raiding, the doctors involved in Ford’s colonoscopy were embarking on an adventure of their own as they entered a mysterious passage. But the sound of the fanfare must have made the experience (even more) uncomfortable for the beloved actor.
John Williams set a new record this year with his scoring of the Indiana Jones series, earning his 54th Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score for last year’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. This is the most nominations ever for anyone outside of Walt Disney, making it the most Oscar nods for anyone living.

A fifth installment might seem unnecessary, but it’s a pleasantly surprising addition to the long-running Indiana Jones franchise.
During the interview, Williams discussed his desire to score every installment in two of his most famous franchises, Indiana Jones and Star Wars. While he has achieved this with the former, the latter is proving a lot more difficult.
“I wanted very much to do all the ‘Star Wars’ films if I could, to keep the whole thing in one piece in a way. And I’ve been asked why I wanted to do five ‘Indiana Jones’ films: Same reason.” Not that he can keep playing parent to the more open-ended blockbuster franchises he’s kick-started. “Now they’re doing a lot more with ‘Star Wars,’ of course, at a volume that I can’t keep up with.”
Harrison Ford Has Now Played Indiana Jones for the Last Time
Harrison Ford has now played Indiana Jones for the final time in the fifth outing, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The sequel follows the daredevil archaeologist as he races against time to retrieve a legendary dial that can change the course of history. Accompanied by his goddaughter, he soon finds himself squaring off against Jürgen Voller, a former Nazi who works for NASA.
Ford has now confirmed that Indiana Jones 5 is his last one several times, saying in April last year…
“This is the final film in the series, and this is the last time I’ll play the character. I anticipate that it will be the last time that he appears in a film.”
However, while it is the last time we will see Ford in the fedora, it is unlikely to be the last outing in franchise as a whole. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy recently hinted an Indiana Jones television series saying…
“It’s Harrison’s last entry. That’s how we look at the Indy franchise. I mean, truthfully, right now, if we were to do anything, it might be in series television down the road, but we’re not doing anything to replace Indiana Jones. This is it.”
