Argylle and The Witcher star Henry Cavill has offered an update on his adaptation of the hugely popular miniature wargame Warhammer 40,000, calling it “the greatest privilege” of his career so far. Cavill, who is well-known for being a fan of the Warhammer game, will work alongside Amazon Studios to bring the world of Warhammer 40k to life, and the Man of Steel star cannot wait.

“It is the greatest privilege of my professional career to have this opportunity. I can’t say too much, again, it’s early days still. But to have this opportunity to bring it to screen, and be at the tiller so it can be faithful, is key to me.”

Cavill’s passion for the project shines through, with the actor saying in his conversation with Josh Horowitz that this is the sort of stuff he has spent his life “daydreaming” about.

“This is the stuff I’ve been dealing with since I was a kid. This is the stuff I spend my free time daydreaming about, as an adult as well, and I get to bring it into life. There is no greater reason than I joined the industry than doing something like this.”

Produced by Games Workshop, Warhammer 40,000 is set in the distant future, where a stagnant human civilization is under siege by hostile aliens and supernatural creatures, with Amazon and Cavill planning to bring the stories to life as a Prime Video series.

Henry Cavill Has Been Dreaming About a Warhammer 40K Series for 30 Years

Confirmed back in 2022, further details surrounding Amazon’s Warhammer 40,000 remain scarce, but Cavill said in a statement at the time that he has been dreaming about such a project for decades.

“For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action,” Cavill begins. “Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life. Partnering with Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo has been a blessing beyond words, without her we might not have found the perfect home at Amazon.”

As well as Warhammer 40k, Henry Cavill will also take the lead in another long-awaited project, the Highlander reboot. Set to be helmed by John Wick: Chapter 4 director Chad Stahelski, Highlander now has a release window of 2026, with Cavill recently confirming his role and revealing some details about how the new take will approach the lore of immortals.

“I’m gonna have to answer that very carefully. I was a Highlander fan. They were great fun movies. Obviously, I watched them when I was a lot younger, and since rewatched. But also the TV show. I really enjoyed the lore behind it. That sort of sense of a tragic warrior, with more of a story to tell than just a cool guy with a cool sword doing cool things. And this goes even deeper into that.”

Henry Cavill can currently be seen in the spy comedy, Argylle, and will soon lead the WWII action outing The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare from director Guy Ritchie, which is due to be released on April 19, 2024.
