This new release date puts The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare up against the likes of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, which is due to receive a limited theatrical release; the horror movie Abigail; A24 and Alex Garland’s Civil War; and Challengers starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist.

After wrapping on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfar, Henry Cavill took to social media to share the news, and also shared an extensive behind-the-scenes look at the movie, which finds The Gentlemen and Sherlock Holmes filmmaker Guy Ritchie in the director’s chair. Check out the original footage from The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare below.

“That’s a wrap! My days on Ungentlemanly Warfare are over. Tis a sad day,” Cavill says in a caption alongside the footage, which shows off the Superman actor as a gloriously mustachioed war hero and leader of a band of black ops misfits. “I’m going to echo the sentiments of my co-stars and sing the praises of our intrepid crew. It’s rare to come across a team so driven, dedicated and committed to the storytelling. That drive and dedication is only intensified by having a leader such as Guy Ritchie. His ability to weave story and create character might be second to none, and he wields it like it were magic.”

Directed by Guy Ritchie from a script he has co-written alongside Arash Amel, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will be based on the 2015 book by Damien Lewis. Inspired by true events, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare details the World War II strategies conceived by United Kingdom Prime Minister Winston Churchill and James Bond creator and author Ian Fleming, whose clandestine squad’s unconventional and entirely ‘ungentlemanly’ fighting techniques against the Nazis helped change the course of the war and in part gave birth to the modern Black Ops unit.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare Stars Eiza González & Alan Ritchson Alongside Henry Cavill

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will find Henry Cavill in charge of a band of misfits and colorful characters akin to those seen in director Quentin Tarantino’s critically acclaimed 2009 World War II outing Inglourious Basterds. This includes Eiza González, Henry Golding, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and Reacher lead Alan Ritchson, who quickly took to Cavill’s post to heap praise on the Man of Steel star.

“So moved by this. However! While I’m not surprised in the least that you would kindly mention Guy’s brilliance, the intrepid crew and the joyful contributions of the ‘Ungentlemanly five” as we’ll call us for now… you gracefully omitted yourself,” Ritchson said. “For anyone that doesn’t have the good fortune of working with a #1 on the call sheet like Cavill, let me just say, none of the accolades he mentioned matter in the least if he is not willing to lead by example. Henry was always first in and last out, never once complained – even in the midst of tough conditions (both on and off the set at times).”

Praising Cavill’s work ethic, Ritchson concludes that “When this film is a hit, it will have everything to do with our man at the top.”

The rest of the cast behind The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare includes the likes of Cary Elwes (Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One), Babs Olusanmokun (Dune, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), Til Schweiger (Inglourious Basterds, Atomic Blonde), Henrique Zaga (Beyond The Universe), and Mohammad Nour Hakmi.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is being planned as the first installment in an action franchise.
