We have now had our first look at Deadpool & Wolverine, aka Deadpool 3 thanks to a record-breaking first trailer. While Jackman’s Wolverine does not feature much in the footage, the trailer has confirmed that the sequel will follow Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With a Mouth on an adventure across the multiverse when he is tasked with saving, well, everything.

Directed by Shawn Levy from a script by the writing team of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, as well as Zeb Wells, Ryan Reynolds, and Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine will be led by Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Logan star Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. The rest of the cast includes Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, with The Crown star Emma Corrin making her MCU debut as Cassandra Nova, the evil twin sister of Charles Xavier.

This is not the first time that Jackman has revealed some insight into his workouts and prep for a Wolverine comeback, with the actor having revealed the sheer amount of calories he has had to consume as well as saying the gym sessions “Hurts so good.”

Deadpool & Wolverine Star Pleads With MCU Fans Not to Spoil Sequel: ‘There’s a Lot of Surprises’

Karan Soni hopes that Marvel fans won’t spoil all the “surprises” that Deadpool & Wolverine has in store.

Jackman has also explained why he wanted to return to the role, especially after 2017’s Logan wrapped up the character’s story so well.

“I really thought I was done. Like, I was at peace with it. I got asked every day, either in interviews, or Ryan Reynolds ringing me, ‘Can we do it again?’ I’m like, ‘No, I’m done.’ Someone said to me, I think it was Deb, she’s my wife, she said, ‘You know, after this, what is it you really wanna do?’ And I was just driving down a day later and I thought, ‘What do I want?’ And it came to me like that, because when I keep thinking of me and Ryan and Deadpool and Wolverine, which are classic comic book rivals, there’s also a dynamic that I’ve never really got to do before as Wolverine.”

Deadpool & Wolverine
is scheduled to be released on July 26, 2024, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
