Ironheart Star Anthony Ramos Teases The ‘Crazy’ MCU Series

Robert Downey Jr. may be returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom, but the follow-up to his Iron Man was Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. And, well before that movie hit theaters in 2022, it was announced that the character would end up getting her own Disney+ series. Now years later, Ironheart still hasn’t hit Disney+, but the six-episode tale is expected to begin streaming at some point in 2025.

There is not a great deal known about the series yet, but one thing that has been announced is the casting of Anthony Ramos as the show’s villain: The Hood. Ramos, who just scored a major win with Twisters this summer, looks to continue his streak by joining Ironheart. The ultra-talented, likable Ramos sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss football, fan superstition, his newly established partnership with The Athletic and, yes, Ironheart.

I saw a trailer at D23…and it was my first time seeing it. And I’m not gonna lie, just as a fan, I was like, ‘Yo, this is crazy. If this show is half as good as this trailer, we in the mix.’ Dominique Thorne is incredible. She plays this genius, and she creates this new suit out of basically just spare parts…I get to play this villain, The Hood, and Parker Robbins in the comics, he gets this hood, and it’s too powerful for him. It’s overwhelming, and it starts to damage his body.

What Else Is Known About Ironheart?

Ramos continued to explain more about his character. From how the suit damages Robbins’ personality and appearance to where the series might take his character. In his words:

You can see it on the outside, and you can see how it’s even affecting him on the inside and his personality and how it’s actually, literally, physically and mentally and emotionally breaking him, but it’s giving him so much power that he’s addicted…It becomes this weapon to seek vengeance, and for him, he’s starting off small, and he’s stealing in the comics, and then gradually it grows…I’m excited for y’all to see what we did with this character and just the art department, and our visual effects team and special effects makeup, too…They really did a crazy job.

So, who will be joining Thorne and Ramos in the series, which follows Riri Williams (Ironheart) as she returns to her home in Chicago? Jim Rash is reprising his role as the Dean of MIT, which he played in Captain America: Civil War. He’ll star alongside MCU newcomers Cree Summer (hysterical in an episode of What We Do in the Shadows), and Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s Alden Ehrenreich. Also in the mix is Sacha Baron Cohen, who, if the rumors are to be believed, will be kicking off his MCU journey by finally bringing Mephisto into the Marvel Universe after many years of speculation. The MCU’s Disney+ offerings have been a mixed bag, but Ramos’ excitement certainly gets one thinking that Ironheart will be a winner.

Ironheart
will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2025.
