Coming quickly following the revelation of the title for the next Knives Out mystery, Wake Up Dead Man, it has now been revealed that Civil War star Cailee Spaeny and Challengers actor Josh O’Connorare in talks to join what’s sure to be another ensemble of accused A-listers. The news comes courtesy of What’s on Netflix, with the report also claiming that Mad Max: Fury Road star and Academy Award nominee Tom Hardy and Mean Girls’Lindsay Lohan are also rumored to be in talks for Knives Out 3.

The official title of the third Knives Out movie was officially revealed a few days ago, with Netflix announcing that the latest whodunnit will be called Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Following the announcement, returning director Rian Johnson released the following statement…

“I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”

At present, Daniel Craig is the only actor confirmed for the threequel, with the former James Bond all set to return as the ludicrously accented private detective Benoit Blanc. However, there are now whispers that Cailee Spaeny, who is best known for standout roles in the likes of Priscilla, Civil War, and will next star in Alien: Romulus, is now in talks to join Craig.

Joining her is Josh O’Connor, who has received critical acclaim for his performance in the Netflix series The Crown, in which he starred as Charles, Prince of Wales. O’Connor has been met with further acclaim for this year’s Challengers from director Luca Guadagnino, in which he stars alongside Zendaya and Mike Faist.

Could Tom Hardy & Lindsay Lohan Join Knives Out 3?

So far, both Knives Out movies have been brimming with major stars. The first outing saw the likes of Ana de Armas, Christopher Plummer, Chris Evans, Katherine Langford, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, and Toni Collette as the main ensemble cast, with the sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, finding Benoit Blanc pointing the finger at Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista.

Director Rian Johnson has offered some insight into his approach to Knives Out 3.

Certainly, the addition of Cailee Spaeny and Josh O’Connor would get Knives Out 3 off to a solid start, but the second pair of names rumored to join would perhaps even top the first two outings. Both Tom Hardy and Lindsay Lohan are now reportedly in talks, and while What’s on Netflix goes on to state that said talks may have “fallen through,” it’s still very possible that we could see these Hollywood stars facing the accusatory gaze of Benoit Blanc.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
is due to begin filming in fall 2024, in London, and is scheduled to make its debut on Netflix in 2025.
