Kraven the Hunter R-Rated Trailer Teases Blood, Revenge & Another Beloved Spider-Man Supervillain

Sony has now dropped a new R-rated trailer for Kraven the Hunter, the next installment in their (questionable) Spider-Man Universe, aka the SSU. The newly released footage reveals more of Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the title character as well as offering our first look at another beloved Spidey supervillain: The Rhino. Directed by J. C. Chandor (Triple Frontier, A Most Violent Year) from a screenplay by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk, Kraven is due to land in theaters in December, with the studio no doubt hoping they have another Venom-esque success on their hands.

You can check out the new trailer for Kraven the Hunter below.

The footage doesn’t shy away from the brutal and bloody violence that will be on display in Kraven the Hunter, as Taylor-Johnson’s antihero embarks on a mission of revenge…while trying to save all the animals…or something. Alongside the trailer, you can check out the official synopsis below.

“Kraven the Hunter is the visceral, action-packed origin story of how and why one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.”

It’s Kraven vs. The Rhino in the Latest SSU Outing

As well as all the bloody violence, the trailer offers our first look at the latest live-action attempt to bring The Rhino to the big screen. Played in Kraven by The Many Saints of Newarkstar Alessandro Nivola, The Rhino is traditionally a thug who undergoes an experimental procedure that gives him artificial skin and superhuman strength. However, in the footage, it looks Kraven will turn into more of a mutated, Hulk-like creation.

Marvel fans have since taken to social media to share their reactions to this first look at Rhino, and it’s been something of a mixed bag so far…

Speaking of mixed bags, we turn now to the SSU. Comprised of the likes of the Venom franchise, Morbius, and the recent, much-maligned Madame Web, the studio is banking on Kraven the Hunter to give them another box office win outside of Tom Hardy and his symbiotic pal. A new report by Deadline reveals that Kraven underwent “some strategic reshoots” which put the movie “more in line with the Venom films.” As per the report, the studio is now confident in the project, with director J. C. Chandor saying he’s “extremely proud” of what’s been achieved.

“I’m extremely proud of the work we have all done together on Kraven, and when the movie finally gets its chance to be seen I think it’s gonna surprise the hell out of a lot of people. As for what’s next for me, as always that’s up to the moviemaking gods.”
