Fans of Manifest could see the Netflix series returning to screens with a spin-off confirmed to still be in development. Viewers were taken on a bumpy ride with the modern Lost-style fantasy-mystery series, and it may be surprising to some that it may not be over yet. Manifest was a huge success when it originally aired on NBC, but the story of the mystery of Flight 828 appeared to have been grounded before reaching a conclusion when the show was canceled after three seasons. However, Netflix came to the rescue and allowed creator Jeff Rake to conclude the story with a bumper 20-episode Season 4. While that brought the story to a close, Rake has now teased that a spin-off series is still in development, and it is his intention to make sure fans get to see it.
Sharing the update on his X/Twitter account, Rake stirred up the Manifest fandom with the simple message that there may not be a “green light yet” but the team are working “nonstop” to deliver a worthy follow-up series. You can see his post below.
Everyone is well aware of how vocal the Manifest fanbase are when it comes to the series, as the huge outcry over the show’s original cancelation was partly responsible for Netflix flying in to save Season 4. With Rake now suggesting that there is a solid storyline being worked on to bring the series back one more time, it is likely that calls to release #ManifestSpinoff will soon be dominating social media until someone caves in and just says yes – because that’s how it works, right?
Manifest Delivered a More Satisfying Conclusion Than a Beginning
Unlike that other much-loved mystery series involving a missing flight and its passengers, Manifest did not strike a chord with everyone on its original debut. Season 1 was released in 2018, introducing audiences to the travelers on Montego Air Flight 828, who land after a turbulent journey to discover they have been missing for five years. While the world, and their families, has moved on believing them to be dead, their second chance at life becomes something more sinister when the passengers begin to find they have a strange connection with each other and have mysterious “callings” that seem to be directing them to a higher purpose.
The original season only gained a 56% Tomatometer score and 64% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. For many shows, this would have been a sure sign that the popularity of the series would not be strong enough to allow it to tell its complete story. However, while Season 2 and Season 3 improved and maintained their audience approval scores, critics dodged the show until it landed on Netflix with Season 4, when its 8 reviews garnered an incredibly impressive 88% score.

The impressive result of its final season, both in its reviews and viewership, was proof that Netflix was right to allow Rake to finish the story he started in 2018, and a strong indicator that there would be interest in more. However, the series ended the story of Flight 828 in a neat and complete way, making it a risky move to undo that success with a possible continuation. Despite that, it seems that Rake is confident that he can deliver something worthy of the legacy of the series, and if that is true, then fans will certainly be waiting at the gate with their boarding cards.
