Margot Robbie & Jacob Elordi Lead Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights

Emerald Fennell is gearing up for her next feature film, an adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, and she has cast a few familiar faces. After starting as an actor in projects like The Danish Girl and The Crown, Fennell has become one of the most exciting creative voices in the industry behind the hit series Killing Eve and her two feature films, Promising Young Woman and, most recently, Saltburn. Given the status of Wuthering Heights as a staple in English literature, much attention has been paid to her upcoming film adaptation, and the casting process has begun by adding two major names: Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

Deadline reports that Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi have joined the cast of Wuthering Heights. Robbie will star as Catherine Earnshaw, while Elordi will play Heathcliff, Catherine’s star-crossed lover and a classic anti-hero. Behind the scenes, Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, will also produce the film, with MRC set to finance the movie. The new film marks the latest attempt at a Wuthering Heights film adaptation, with the most recent being from 2011 starring Kaya Scodelario in the lead role.

Emerald Fennell Assembles Her All-Star Cast

Wuthering Heights will see Fennell reunite with both Elordi and Robbie. The former starred in last year’s Saltburn as Felix Catton. Meanwhile, Wuthering Heights will mark Robbie’s first time working with Fennell directing. The two have collaborated through Robbie’s LuckyChap production company with both Promising Young Woman and Saltburn. Additionally, Fennell also had a brief but memorable cameo as Midge, the pregnant doll, in the Robbie-led Barbie film, which grossed $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office.

No word on when production on Wuthering Heights will start or when it will be released, especially since both Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi have busy schedules. Robbie will next be seen in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, by acclaimed director Koganada, set for release on May 9, 2025. She was attached to star in an Ocean’s Eleven prequel titled Oceans, but that film has seemingly been put on hold while George Clooney and Brad Pitt assemble a cast for Ocean’s Fourteen. Elordi’s On Swift Horses just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and he is currently set to star in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein as the monster. Fennell herself will likely round out the rest of the cast before the end of the year, and aim to shoot in early to mid-2025 for a possible late 2025 release date.
