The announcement that Jurassic World 4 is planning a theatrical debut in 2025 came as a surprise to many, but also set up the idea that the quick turnaround could allow the original stars of Jurassic franchise to once again reprise their roles. However, it seems that one person who doesn’t think that is going to happen is Dr. Allan Grant himself, Sam Neill.

Slated for release on July 2, 2025, with Gareth Edwards at the helm, Jurassic World 4 is yet to reveal much about the story that will bring more dinosaur action to cinemas. However, in a new interview with Forbes, Neill made a pretty definite suggestion that he would probably not be back to run away from more prehistoric beasts in the new movie. He said:

All I know is what I see on social media, that I hardly ever look at. I have no idea what anyone’s thinking at all. Look, I can obviously play tennis — you see that in the show, but as far as running from dinosaurs, maybe that’s it.

Previously it was reported that this movie will be a whole new chapter in the Jurassic saga, and that the stars of the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchises will not be returning this time around. That seems to line up with Neill’s comments, and would mean another reset of the franchise similar to what Jurassic World did in 2015.

Should the Jurassic World Franchise Take a Rest?

They say things come in threes, but whether they should is another thing. Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park: The Lost World brought dinosaurs to life on screen like no film before them, but Jurassic Park III, while fun and dino-filled, lacked a lot of the storytelling that Michael Crichton’s novels provided. Over a decade later, Jurassic World came along and resurrected the franchise to the tune of $1.6 billion. Now after a divisive finale of the Jurassic World trilogy, it seems that another is about to start quicker than expected.

Jurassic World: Dominion finally brought together the characters of both trilogies, with Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum all reprising their roles alongside Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Although many fans were happy to see the return of the OG cast, others felt the movie pushed its nostalgia-reliance a bit too far, as well as delivering some almost laughably contrived moments.

Why Jurassic Park 1993 Is So Important Even 30 Years Later

30 years on and the original Jurassic Park is still widely considered the best film of the entire franchise. Here’s a look at why it’s so important.

Jurassic World 4 – which will most likely not be the name the film releases under – has the advantage of original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp being on board the project, and the talents of Gareth Edwards behind the camera. Beyond that, though, it looks like the saga is about to head into uncharted territory, with a new cast and a new story to tell. With the sight of stunningly realized dinosaurs no longer being enough to carry a movie alone, the team will have to come up with something special to deliver a movie that pleases critics and fans of the franchise alike.

Jurassic World 4
will be released in cinemas on July 2, 2025.
