Actor and fiilmmaker Zelda Williams, the daughter of the late, great Robin Williams, has had to respond to a ridiculous image of her father that recently went viral. Taking to social media, Zelda Williams was forced to debunk claims that Robin Williams once owned a pet monkey. Claims that were recently shared alongside an image of the actor and comedian with the animal perched on his shoulder. Unfortunately, the offense goes even further, with the claim stating that the image is “One of the last photos” of Williams, who sadly passed away on August 11, 2014.
After the misinformation went viral, Zelda Williams was forced to reveal the ridiculousness of such claims. Responding to the post, Zelda Williams clarified that the monkey in the photo with her father was his “Night at the Museum costar” and that “NO ONE” should ever own a pet monkey.
“It’s been brought to my attention some probably AI written BS like this is going viral. Dad didn’t own a pet monkey, NO ONE should, and if you’re ever tempted to, support your local exotic animal rescues instead. That is his Night at the Museum costar, who now lives at one.”
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Robin Williams’ passing, with the incorrect post demonstrating once again the effects of misinformation as, rather than celebrating her father’s life, Zelda Williams has instead had to respond to ridiculous social media posts and debunk false claims that have only been made for clicks.

Zelda Williams went on to warn social media users about more false claims on the anniversary of Robin Williams’ death, saying, “just assume they’re all BS.”
“And since more completely false or badly researched posts are likely to go viral on Dad’s death anniversary, maybe just assume they’re all BS (they usually are).”
