SNL Vet Rob Schneider Discusses 50-Year Friendship With Adam Sandler

After being friends for nearly five decades now, the friendship between Rob Schneider and Adam Sandler hasn’t faded with time. The longtime collaborators and best friends share a bond that has endured both on and off the screen. And while it has been years since the two showcased their professional bromance (their last movie together was 2020’s Hubie’s Halloween), the news that Sandler still checks on Schneider every week only proves that their friendship is still going strong.

Schneider recently attended the New York City premiere of Adam Sandler’s new Netflix comedy special, Adam Sandler: Love You, to lend his support. During the event, Schneider spoke with People magazine and revealed a heartwarming detail about their friendship, saying that Sandler has been calling Schneider every week to check up on him for the past 30 years.

“There’s not been a week in 30 years where he doesn’t check in on me. I mean, that’s true. No matter where I am in the world, I’ll get a phone call, sometimes in the middle of the night. He called me from Italy, [and said], ‘What are you doing?’ I go, ‘It’s two o’clock in the morning.’ ‘Well get up. I need to talk to you. Are you good?’”

The duo’s professional journey began in 1998 with The Waterboy (directed by Frank Coraci), in which Schneider makes a memorable cameo as Townie, a role that stuck around for two more movies. Since then, Schneider and Sandler have starred in several films together, including Big Daddy, 50 First Dates, Grown Ups, The Ridiculous 6, and You Don’t Mess with the Zohan. Their incredible chemistry and comedic timing have made them a beloved pair.

Will Rob Schneider Reunite With Adam Sandler for the Happy Gilmore Sequel?

Adam Sandler is currently working on Happy Gilmore 2 and fans are wondering if his co-star and friend Rob Schneider will join him on the project. The 1996 movie became a cult classic, and while details about the sequel are limited for now, when Schneider was asked if there was a possibility of him appearing in the movie, he teased, “We’ll see.”

Sandler’s ongoing partnership with Netflix has been genuinely rewarding. Schneider, too, acknowledges the fact that his recent projects have allowed him to explore a variety of roles and genres, and he is grateful to have been a part of Sandler’s journey, cheering him on from the sidelines and wishing him prosperity. He told People magazine he didn’t have “any words to say except I love him and I just want him to be healthy, happy, successful.”

“We’ve been friends for five decades now. He’s a special cat, and for him to include me in all this stuff ever is just, it’s incredible… It’s beautiful. Him doing Hustle was great, and Uncut Gems is great. … He’s working with really, really talented people… He’s got a new movie coming out with George Clooney for Netflix. It’s been a wonderful, great experience for him and a great deal for Netflix to get the biggest movie star in the world on there.”

The bond between Schneider and Sandler is more than just professional; it is heartwarming and enduring. They are proud friends who love to see each other’s careers thrive. Finally reflecting on Sandler’s current winning streak, Schneider tipped his hat and said, “He’s just getting started.”
