Teacup’s First Teaser Offers Terrifying Look at James Wan’s Horror Series

This October, James Wan and the team at Atomic Monster are looking to terrify audiences with Peacock’s newest horror series, Teacup. Loosely based on the 1988 novel Stinger by Robert McCammon, we now have our first teaser that showcases what’s in store for the ensemble cast that includes the likes of Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, Kathy Baker, and Boris McGiver. Needless to say, we’re on pins and needles waiting for the new show, which will feature eight, 30-minute episodes, with the first two being released on October 10 followed by two more episodes released weekly until Halloween.

The new teaser trailer for Teacup features a host of creepy imagery, including people in gas masks, Kathy Baker brandishing a knife in a barn, someone getting pulled into a dark room, trembling fingers, and Scott Speedman ready to defend his family. Yvonne Strahovski looks particularly concerned about her son, too, which makes us wonder just how far Wan and company will go to deliver on everything Teacup promises. Check out the teaser below.

Developed by Wan and first-time showrunner Ian McCulloch, Teacup follows a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive. While it certainly looks to borrow from McCammon’s original novel — which features a blend of science fiction, social commentary, and horror — McCulloch says that the series stands on its own as a variety of different things, while at the same time keeping the core of McCammon’s ideas.

“The series is now very much its own thing: a puzzle-box mystery, an edge-of-your-seat thriller, a
can’t-but-must
look horror story, a family drama, a science fiction epic—of the keyhole variety, of course. But as singular, strange, and surprising as I hope
Teacup
is, all you need to do is peel away the layers, characters, situations, and mythology and look behind the thrills, chills, hairpin turns and
make-you gasp
reveals. Do all that and you’ll see, at its heart,
Teacup
is still very much standing on the shoulders of
Stinger
. Just as it should.”

James Wan Says Teacup ‘Defies Easy Labels’

Known to have many irons in the fire of the horror genre, James Wan first blew us all away with 2004’s Saw. While the writer, director, and producer has kept his toes in the franchise over the years, he’s branched out to be involved in a number of other IPs, including the world of Insidious and The Conjuring universe. When it comes to Teacup, he says that Peacock’s latest series “defies easy labels” by being a mix of a lot of different things which he’s hoping will shine a light on the darkness that’s in everyone.

“Teacup defies easy labels. It’s a genre-bending blend of horror, mystery, and drama, with layers that unfold like a captivating puzzle. It goes beyond chills and thrills and holds up a mirror to humanity, exploring the darkness that resides within us all. We hope you enjoy this wild ride as much as we’ve loved creating it!”
