The Acolyte Trailer Has 270,000 Dislikes on YouTube as Star Wars Fans Share Their Disappointment

“The darkness rises” as the recent trailer for the latest Star Wars series, The Acolyte, is bombarded with dislikes on YouTube from those who seemingly do not like what they see. While the trailer, which debuted earlier this week, now has over 155,000 likes, it has also garnered well over 270,000 dislikes as Star Wars fans continue to question the direction of the beloved franchise.

Several comments that have been left by disappointed and disgruntled Star Wars fans use a quote from the trailer itself to relay their message. “’What do you see?’ The comment section getting turned off,” said one user, with another adding, “’Close your eyes, what do you see?’ I see the dislike to like ratio.”

Based on the sheer amount of dislikes alongside the comments, it looks like many Star Wars fans will not even endeavor to give The Acolyte a try when it lands on Disney+ in June. “’Close your eyes ,what do you see?’ ‘What else i can watch,’” says another, with further comments accusing Disney of not understanding what fans really want from the franchise: “What do you see? I see Disney never understanding who their fanbase is and never giving them what they want.”

The Acolyte Has Been Planned as a ‘Multi-Season’ Show

Despite the backlash from some fans, The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland has high hopes for the series, and has revealed to Collider that the show has been planned for multiple seasons.

“I would say that when I pitched it, I definitely pitched it as a multi-season show. There are a lot of things at the end of this season that I think are narrative threads that are not tied up, for sure. However, I am the type of writer that is not interested in an emotional cliffhanger. I want you to feel like you’ve had a particular type of catharsis, and an emotional experience in watching those eight episodes because I like rewarding the audience with that.

I still think that means you can pepper in things that are like, ‘I wanna see where that’s gonna go’ and, ‘Oh, I didn’t realize that person was related to that person in this way, and I’d like to see more.’ But there isn’t something where you feel like you’re on the edge of your seat to have that catharsis, and then you have to wait two years. These things take forever to make, so I would hate to make a season that didn’t feel complete, even if it was still open for more story.”
