Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly in Talks To Play Beth Dutton Past Season 5

Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly in Talks To Play Beth Dutton Past Season 5

It’s been far too long since fans have taken a trip with some poor, unlucky soul to the infamous Train Station, but don’t expect actress Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton to board what is tantamount to a death sentence anytime soon. However, where the modern-day Western is concerned, Beth could last well past the end of the line and even beyond the conclusion of Kevin Costner’s version of the Dutton Ranch. As implausible as it might seem, the first batch of Yellowstone Season 5 episodes concluded all the way back in January 2023.

To put things in perspective, Season 5, Episode 8, “A Knife and No Coin” dropped before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes began in 2023. But now that the Kevin Costner controversy has been overcome, Reilly is willing to continue portraying the character of Beth beyond the world of her complicated father, John Dutton (Costner). Reilly said (per Entertainment Weekly):

“There’s potentially another chapter. It’s being talked about now. Nothing is set in stone. But if Taylor [Sheridan] wants to write it, I would want to do it. That’s it. Because he’s the one that’s written every single line I’ve ever said. She came from his imagination. But we’re both in agreement that there’s a shift that has to take place.”

Reilly, who has portrayed Beth Dutton since the show first debuted back in June 2018, also discussed how the franchise will continue past the flagship series. “You can’t keep telling the same story,” Reilly said. “This story is ending. Yellowstone as we know it is ending, but if there is more story to tell with some of the characters, it’s going to be a little different.”

Beth Dutton Beyond Yellowstone Season 5

Taylor Sheridan is currently developing his first modern-age spin-off of the popular Yellowstone series, The Madison, which will star Michelle Pfeiffer. But it’s not quite time to close the book on characters like the feisty and not-to-be-crossed Beth Dutton just yet. And while nothing about Beth’s future is set in stone beyond Season 5, actress Kelly Reilly is ready for the series to finally return. Reilly said in an interview with RadioTimes.com back in March:

“Gosh, I’m really looking forward to them [the fans] having them [the last episodes]. We can only shoot this show in the summer because when winter comes in Montana from November through till May, it’s snowing – and shooting this show in the snow with horses, it’s just not possible. So, we have one window and last year we lost it because of the actors’ strike. So, I’m looking forward to them having the show back. I look forward to giving them their show back and look forward to ending it.”

Less than a month ago, we learned that Yellowstone Season 6 remains a possibility with both Reilly and her co-star Cole Hauser (who plays her on-screen lover, Rip), “in talks” to reprise their much-beloved roles. However, it’s important to remember that at the time of this writing, no contracts have been inked yet. But in light of that news and Reilly’s recent comments, it seems more likely than not that Yellowstone fans have a legitimate chance of getting to follow Beth Dutton’s story well beyond the conclusion of Season 5 Part 2.
