Cameron Diaz is in talks to reteam with Keanu Reeves for Jonah Hill’s upcoming dark comedy Outcome. Per Variety, Diaz is in final negotiations to join the project. This will mark Diaz’s second feature film following a ten-year acting hiatus and her second time working with Reeves. The two collaborated on Steven J. Baigelman’s 1996 comedy-drama Feeling Minnesota.

For Hill’s Outcome, Reeves will star as Reef, a damaged Hollywood star who must dive into the dark depths of his past to confront his demons and make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video clip from his past. Details surrounding Diaz’s character remain unknown.

Outcome will be Hill’s sophomore directorial feature, following 2018’s Mid90s; Hill also directed (and appears in) the Netflix documentary Stutz, which chronicles the life and career of Hill’s therapist, Dr. Phil Stutz. Outcome‘s script is co-scribed by Hill and Ezra Woods. Hill also produces with Matt Dines and Ali Goodwin under their Strong Baby banner. Outcome is an Apple Studios production.

Diaz’s last film appearance was in 2014’s Annie, where she portrayed Miss Colleen Hannigan – that year, she also appeared in The Other Woman and Sex Tape. In 2018, she announced her retirement from acting. While appearing on Kevin Hart’s talk show Hart to Heart in 2021, Diaz elaborated on her decision to move away from acting, telling Hart:


“When you do something at a really high level for a long period of time, when you’re the person that’s sort of delivering on this one thing, everything around, all parts of you that isn’t that, has to sort of be handed off to other people. Just, the management of me as a human being… Cameron Diaz is a machine. But for my personal, spiritual self, I was realizing that one part of me that functioned at a high level wasn’t enough.”

In 2022, Diaz made headlines as it was confirmed she would reunite with her Annie and Any Given Sunday co-star Jamie Foxx for an action comedy flick for Netlix. Diaz’s big return to the screen, aptly titled Back in Action, will land on the streamer later this year. The film commenced production in 2022 but has faced several delays, including Foxx’s 2023 health scare.
