  • The classical covers of modern songs in Bridgerton Season 3 soundtrack are strategically placed to amplify key moments and emotions.

Although Bridgerton is a period romance set in the Regency era, the upbeat and modern songs played all throughout the series give audiences a more contemporary feeling. Pulling in artists and popular pop songs of today has proven to be quite effective as many dance numbers can naturally match their tempo as well as build tension all the way until the characters practically explode with emotion.

The first half of Season 3 has become the talk of the town — what will Lady Whistledown have to say about it all? — as Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) have finally settled their little cat-and-mouse game. Fans have watched the two friends go back and forth with their flirting and fluttering eyes, but in the mid-season finale, they finally embrace every aspect of one another, leaving fans wanting more. A few particular songs have helped the story move along, and because all of them are instrumental covers, viewers still get the emotional ties that draw everything together.

7 “Dynamite” by BTS

Great Tempos Make for Fun Dance Songs

Though “Dynamite” by BTS is an incredible song, Vitamin String Quartet’s cover of it comes in at last place on this list. About 10 seconds of the song can be heard altogether, just after Colin gives Penelope advice about putting herself out there and talking to eligible young suitors at the queen’s ball. The song starts off soft in the background as Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) is talking with some other young ladies, but it comes to the forefront when the cameras focus on Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) watching her guests dance around and try to impress her.

Because the song does not play a prominent role in the scene, it was likely used because it is upbeat and fun to dance to, and it brings in a more contemporary feel for the viewers. If you pay close attention, you can see Lady Danbury bobbing her head along to the beat, but that could just be Adjoa Andoh breaking character and enjoying the song and festivities while she has a front-row seat.

6 “Jealous” by Nick Jonas

Colin Bridgerton Watches Penelope Featherington Connect with Another Man

While at Queen Charlotte’s ball, Colin advises Penelope to make herself seen and speak to eligible suitors. Her first attempt failed miserably, but when she speaks to Lord Remington (Zak Ford-Williams), there is an instant connection. He admits that he likes a bit of gossip, instantly catching her attention. When he says that he waits by the door the day his Lady Whistledown gossip sheet is supposed to arrive, Penelope moves closer and noticeably becomes more intrigued. All while this is happening, Colin stands at a distance with a group of young men, but he cannot seem to keep his eyes off his friend.

An instrumental version of Nick Jonas’ “Jealous” can be heard during this scene, and it is actually the perfect song for a few different reasons. The beat is light and upbeat, but for those who actually know the song, the message behind it is respectful. A man loves a woman and is jealous that others take notice of her as much as he does. However, he knows he cannot do much because she is so beautiful and perfect. In the Bridgerton scene, Colin knows Penelope is gorgeous and an amazing woman, but he cannot help but feel a little jealous or possessive of her.

5 “Cheap Thrills” by Sia, featuring Big Sean

Lady Bridgerton Meets a Potential Love Interest

While riding up to yet another ball, Sia’s “Cheap Thrills,” featuring Big Sean, positively cannot be ignored. The three eligible Bridgerton women arrive in a carriage, and while Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Colin escort their sisters, Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and Eloise, Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) also encounters a handsome man. Lord Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis) picks up Lady Bridgerton’s glove in a suave manner, and from the sparks between them, it would seem like we have certainly not seen the last of him.

Vitamin String Quartet’s cover of “Cheap Thrills” is perfectly placed in this scene as the Bridgerton women get ready to have a fun time at the ball. The beat is energetic and fun, and it makes audiences think that a good time lies ahead for the women as they hit the dance floor and possibly find their love matches for the night.

4 “Happier Than Ever” by Billie Eilish

Colin Bridgerton Realizes His Feelings for Penelope Featherington

To close out the third episode of Season 3, Colin approaches Penelope and is about to admit his feelings for her when they are (unsurprisingly) interrupted by Lord Debling (Sam Phillips). Penelope walks away from her friend to dance with her suitor, and Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever” (covered by Vitamin String Quartet) plays in the background.

Now, it is one thing for this song to be played because it makes for a great dance number, but it is another for Eilish’s message to ring loud and clear to Bridgerton fans. Penelope does not yet know how Colin feels about her, and she is sick and tired of trying to impress eligible men. When she is on the dance floor with Lord Debling, who seems to have taken a genuine interest in the real her (though the Lady Whistledown side of her is still a well-kept secret), the song suggests that she is at the very least content with her match. She is “happier than ever” with a decent man than with her long-time crush who she believes only sees her as a friend.

3 “Snow on the Beach” by Taylor Swift, featuring Lana Del Rey

Penelope Featherington Is Caught in a Love Triangle

In the fourth episode, after Lady Bridgerton lets Colin know that she has overheard that Lord Debling plans to propose to Penelope, the eligible Bridgerton boy finally decides to do something about his feelings. In a not-so-chivalrous fashion, Colin approaches the couple dancing and steps in to take Lord Debling’s place. He tells his best friend that she cannot wed a man she just met, but he fails to actually get to the root of his argument, that he is in fact in love with her. Penelope is rightfully baffled by Colin’s stance on her relations, but with everyone watching, she cannot get the truth out of him.

While all of this is going on, Atwood Quartet’s cover of Taylor Swift’s “Snow on the Beach,” featuring Lana Del Rey, is playing as everyone moves around the dance floor. Of course, incorporating a Swift song about a relationship into Bridgerton seems so obvious, but this particular song deals with a young woman being confused about how a relationship is working out for her. Swift equates the situation to “snow on the beach,” “weird but f***** beautiful;” this is exactly how Lady Whistledown might describe Penelope’s relationship with Colin, that is, if she was willing to publish those words for all to see.

2 “abcdefu” by Gayle

Penelope’s Big Entrance After Her Makeover Is Iconic

After two seasons of practically living in the loudest yellow dresses with the most obnoxious patterns, Penelope decides that it is time for her to stand out from the crowd. More specifically, she tells her seamstress that she wants to look like the women wearing the latest fashion in Paris, likely because Colin just spent a great deal of time in the city of love. With a stunning emerald green dress paired with long black gloves and her gorgeous red hair, the youngest Featherington sister descends Lady Danbury’s staircase while Vitula’s cover of Gayle’s “abcdefu” plays in the background.

The song itself is about a young woman taking back control and telling her ex, his mother, friends, and practically everyone and everything (minus his dog) to [expletive] off after things ended on not such a great note. This message is perfect for Penelope as she essentially wants to say the same thing to her own mother, sisters, and everyone in their social circle who has ever seen her as less than. You will get chills watching Penelope come out to society in her very own way while all eyes, including Mr. Bridgerton’s, are on her in this breakthrough scene.

1 “Give Me Everything” by Pitbull

The Infamous Carriage Scene Gave Fans Everything

There are plenty of great songs throughout Bridgerton‘s third season, and many of them are paired with incredible scenes. However, as any fan will tell you, nothing comes close to the infamous carriage scene. The long-awaited sensual and sweet release between Penelope and Colin finally comes to a head at the very end of the fourth episode, and everything about it is captivating.

Colin and Penelope finally get physical after admitting their true feelings for one another, and the instrumental cover of Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything” absolutely enhances every feeling between the two. The tempo builds, and the sound gets louder as the two get more intimate inside the carriage. You can feel your own heart rate trying to match the rhythm as everything gets a little out of control. Much like the potential new couple, you may even find yourself a bit out of breath by the time the driver knocks on the door, putting an end to all activities.
