Chris Hemsworth in Talks to Lead Transformers & G.I. Joe Crossover Movie

Marvel actor Chris Hemsworth is now in talks to lead the upcoming (and long-awaited) Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie, it has been revealed. According to a report by Deadline, Hemsworth is being tapped to star in the project for Paramount Pictures, with the Transformers-meets-G.I. Joe movie set to be based on the respective Hasbro toy lines.

While further details regarding Hemsworth’s role in the Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover remain unknown at this time, thanks to his performances in the likes of Thor, the Avengers movies, and the Extraction franchise, it’s not difficult to see how the action star would fit into, and lead, the project for Paramount.

And that’s if Hemsworth is even playing a human, with the actor already all set to join the world of the Transformers as the voice of Orion Pax, aka Optimus Prime in the upcoming animated prequel Transformers One. Starring alongside Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm, Transformers One follows the early relationship of Optimus Prime and Megatron, who started off as friends before changing Cybertron forever.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Set the Stage for a G.I. Joe Crossover Event

The stage has now been set for a live-action Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover, with the latest outing, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, teasing the long-awaited meeting of the two Hasbro properties. The final moments of last year’s Transformers prequel finds Anthony Ramos’ ex-military electronics expert being invited for a meeting regarding a mysterious security job…which turns out to be an invitation into the secret government organization G.I. Joe.

Thus, a crossover was finally born, with Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. having previously revealed how the moment came to be…

“I just saw the sparkle in Lorenzo’s eyes. He was really excited about it. He was like, “This could be crazy. This is good. I dig this.” He’s heard about it before, but never tried it. And he was like, “Maybe you don’t pitch it to the studio. Maybe you just write it in the script and go for it. Let them read your draft of the film and see how they react.” And that’s what we did.”
