Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy Trilogy is Now Streaming on Peacock

After much demand from the fan base, The Mummy (1999), the timeless action/adventure hit starring Brendan Fraser, is returning to streaming. Directed by Stephen Sommers, The Mummy is now streaming again, finding a new home on Peacock. Alongside Brendan Fraser, the movie also stars Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Kevin J. O’Connor, and Omid Djalili.

Fraser plays Rick O’Connell, a debonnaire adventurer, who’s enlisted by English librarian Evelyn Carnahan (Weisz) to oversee an archaeological dig site in the ancient city of Hamunaptra. In close competition with a rival group of explorers, Rick, Evelyn, and her brother Jonathan (Hannah), are faced with a three millennium-old danger as the rival explorers accidentally unleash an ancient curse placed upon the dead High Priest Imhotep. As the curse releases ten devastating plagues on modern day Egypt, Rick, Evelyn, and Jonathan are forced to fight for their survival against ancient powers. The Mummy blends its seemingly dark (and borderline horrific) concept with the fun, sarcastic comedy that was a staple of 90s adventure films. 25 years later, few adventure movies have been able to capture the fun and excitement of The Mummy.

Even with his recent career resurgence, The Mummy is regarded as one of Brendan Fraser’s best films to date. The movie, and it’s sequel, The Mummy Returns, have garnered a devout cult following, and solidified Fraser as a leading action star. Fraser returned for a third installment in 2008, titled The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, but that movie is best left forgotten.

Brendan Fraser is Open to Returning for The Mummy 4

Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which saw Maria Bello recast as Evelyn after Rachel Weisz refused to return, halted any chances of a fourth installment dead in their tracks. The movie received poor reviews, and, despite still being considered a box office success, was the lowest grossing movie in the trilogy.

Even after the abysmal 2017 reboot, starring Tom Cruise as a new character, Nick Morton, fans are still secretly hoping for a fourth installment in the franchise for over a decade. While nothing has officially been announced, rumors have been circulating for years about Brendan Fraser and Stephen Sommers returning for a fourth Mummy movie. Fraser gave the last update on the project in early 2023 when he announced that he would love to return for a fourth movie. The actor didn’t confirm whether the project was officially on the cards, but, were it to be greenlit, he’d be the first person to say yes. Fraser said:

“Gosh, I don’t know any juicy details about it. But it’s kind of an open-ended question for some time now. I’m not opposed to it. I don’t know an actor that doesn’t want a job. I don’t think I’ve been this famous and unsalaried at the same time in my professional life, so sign me up.”
