Coyote vs. Acme Star Shares New Images & Gratitude for Support From Fans

The tragic saga of Coyote vs. Acme continues, as it once again seems like the Warner Bros. animation/live-action hybrid movie could be shelved forever as the studio has refused to sell it to another distributor. Actor Eric Bauza has shared more images from the (possibly?) erased Warner Bros. movie, Coyote vs. Acme. Taking to social media, Bauza expressed his love, support, and gratitude to both those who worked on the movie and those who are now fighting for it to be released amid conversations that the studio plans to cancel the project in the name of a tax write-off.

“Regardless of what happens to this film, on behalf of the cast & crew — I just wanted to express how thankful we are of all the love, support and words of encouragement we’ve recieved behind #ReleaseCoyoteVsACME. The fight to release “Coyote Vs ACME” goes far beyond saving a great movie. We are trying to preserve the integrity & importance of these icon legacy characters, while protecting the creative process of storytelling all together.”

Coyote vs. Acme, which stars Will Forte, John Cena, Lana Condor, and the Looney Tunes characters in an animation/live action hybrid similar to the likes of Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, had been earmarked for deletion back in November. Similar to the controversial shelving of Batgirl, Coyote vs. Acme was on the chopping block until major backlash and a public outcry stopped them in their tracks.

A screening of the movie for friends and family of those involved caused even further backlash after praise was heaped on Coyote vs. Acme by those in attendance. Including Paul Scheer, who said of the movie, “What was so exciting was that it felt like the film captured the voice of the Looney Tunes that we love in a way none of the other feature versions have ever done.”

In response, instead of erasing Coyote vs. Acme from cinematic history, the studio allowed the filmmakers to shop the project around. But, according to this latest report, Warner Bros. has now “had enough.”

“With Warner Bros. Discovery’s fourth quarter earnings call scheduled for Feb. 23, “Coyote vs. Acme” is running out of time. Many on the film’s team feel that the studio will use the ending of the quarter to get the movie off the books for good. “Coyote vs. Acme” is running up against something worse than a tunnel painted into the side of a mountain or a falling anvil. It will finally be silenced by a movie studio’s balance sheet.”

In the midst of this chaos, Bauza, who stars in the show as the titular Wile E. Coyote, recently made an appearance at the Annie Awards and made a humorous demand for Warner Bros. to get their act together and just release the movie.

Netflix, Amazon & Paramount All Offered to Buy Coyote vs. Acme, Reports Claim

According to a previous report by The Wrap, Coyote vs. Acme is in peril once again, with producer Chris DeFaria being told by a WB executive that “They just want to get this behind them. They want to close the books.” The report reveals that a source close to the project “doesn’t believe Warner Bros. would even announce that they hadn’t found a home for the movie.” Instead, it is now thought that the studio will simply “unceremoniously delete” Coyote vs. Acme from existence.

Screenings have since taken place for potential buyers, including Netflix, Amazon and Paramount, but “Warner Bros., which stood to make $35 – $40 million on the tax write-down, wanted something in the ballpark of $75 – $80 million from a buyer.” Not only that, but they would not allow counteroffers.

Warner Bros. Discovery could be in trouble because of Coyote vs Acme, Batgirl and other canceled projects.

If things were not already bad enough, the report goes on to say that a source has revealed “the four Warner Bros. executives responsible for making this decision” and have not even seen the finished film. Warner Bros. has not responded to requests for comment, according to TheWrap.

Directed by Dave Green, Coyote vs. Acme follows Looney Tunes icon Wile E. Coyote as he takes his mistreatment and constant failure to catch the Road Runner to court.

“After all of the ACME Corporation’s malfunctioned products consistently backfired on him, in his dogged pursuit of the Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote hires a down-on-his-luck human attorney to sue ACME. When Wile E.’s hired lawyer notices that his intimidating boss at his former law firm is representing ACME, they form a friendship and team up to win the court case against him.”
