team have used some iconic press moments to promote the film, in theaters July 26.

Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy urges fans to watch the movie multiple times — or they may just miss out on an abundance of fan service that will make them “lose their damn minds.” According to Levy, the film is so densely packed that the proper way to watch it is through multiple sittings. In the newest issue of the magazine SFX (via GamesRadar), Levy discussed the film and argued that audiences will want to watch the movie multiple times to catch all the details they might miss on first viewing.

The movie’s so funny and full of crowd-pleasing moments, Levy says, that the average viewer will have to watch multiple times to catch details they may have missed. “There are going to be moments that the audiences are going to love, but I’ll also say there are moments where they are going to lose their damn minds – like that, times ten billion. Which is not a number, but I’m using it for hyperbole,” Levy said. (It is a number!)

Levy also stated that he and Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds would have “brotherly debates” about which moments audiences would love and laugh at the most. In fact, Levy’s goal was for audiences to laugh so much, they might miss certain lines of dialogue, encouraging audiences to see the film again just to catch everything:

“There are some moments in this movie that
if you can even hear the dialogue over the laughter, we’ve failed
. We went through this in the edit room, when I’m telling Ryan that every time we show a certain scene you can’t hear the three lines because the audience is still laughing at the line that came before. Every time, we had this very brotherly debate. Ryan usually won. He’s like, ‘
Great, they’ll have to see the movie again!
‘”

Deadpool & Wolverine’s Marketing Campaign

Deadpool & Wolverine comes during a complicated time for Marvel Studios. The studio — which had been pumping out multiple releases a year — has not released a film since 2023’s underperforming film, The Marvels. Even one member of the Deadpool & Wolverine cast, Emma Corrin, has admitted that there’s pressure on the film to succeed after Marvel’s latest tepid performances.

Shawn Levy Likens Deadpool & Wolverine to Early MCU Movies… Despite Its Multiverse Plot

According to director Shawn Levy, the highly-anticipated Marvel team-up is going back to basics when it comes to the MCU.

Consequently, Marvel has attempted to revive interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s once-robust lineup using Deadpool & Wolverine. The film features Hugh Jackman’s return to the role of Wolverine, a huge draw for audiences, and Marvel has capitalized on this heavily. Not only has Wolverine been heavily featured in the film’s marketing, but Jackman’s own rapport with Reynolds has made for some iconic press moments.

The studio has also embraced Deadpool‘s R-Rated humor as part of its promotional campaign. After the infamous Dune popcorn bucket went viral earlier this year, Marvel unveiled a special popcorn bucket shaped like Wolverine’s head (complete with an open mouth and tongue) for Deadpool & Wolverine. Of course, Marvel hasn’t only engaged in memetic marketing; the studio is also banking on pure fan excitement.

For instance, Kevin Feige stoked fan excitement by hinting at the film’s connection to mutants. Mutants have famously been excluded from the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to rights issues, and fans have been clamoring for their inclusion for years now. Perhaps that is what Levy meant by moments where audiences will “lose their damn minds” — the film has already been confirmed to feature never-before-seen mutants like Corrin’s Cassandra Nova. The movie may also feature more cameos and fan-pleasing moments with mutants and a variety of MCU characters. You can watch the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, out July 26, below.
