Face to Face With Scott Peterson Trailer Teases New Theories in Laci Peterson Murder on Peacock

The trailer for Face to Face With Scott Peterson, the Peacock documentary series that sheds new light on the Laci Peterson murder case, will seemingly present new theories about what happened. The Laci Peterson murder trial concluded with the sentencing of Scott, her husband, to spend the rest of his life in prison after the defense team failed to come up with enough evidence for reasonable doubt. The upcoming true crime docuseries changes the usual perspective and goes for a more controversial take: this time, Scott Peterson is finally speaking after maintaining a very vague (and arguably suspicious) attitude toward the case.

The docuseries, produced by Peacock and directed by Shareen Anderson and Po Kutchins, consists of three episodes of full testimony by Peterson. Other figures involved in the case such as lead detective Al Brocchini, detective Jon Buehler and former ABC News producer Mike Gudgell, will also get to share their insights in the docuseries.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Scott’s sister-in-law, Janey, confirms that the famous Innocence Project has taken Scott’s case in order to analyze new evidence that could help the imprisoned man. Lara Yeretsian, who was part of Scott’s defense team, believes there’s enough evidence that could exonerate Scott, and it may all lie in blood found on a mattress inside a van. Curiously, this was never analyzed by the Modesto Police Department. You can check out the trailer for Face to Face With Scott Peterson below.

It Was a Case That Captivated the Country

At 8 months pregnant, Laci Peterson went missing on Christmas Eve, 2002. As the investigation unfolded, he was revealed to be a liar, a cheater, and ultimately a murderer. The world’s media hung on every moment of the trial, and Scott was convicted and sentenced to death. Case closed. Or is it? For the first time since before his arrest in 2003, Scott speaks on camera in a series of intimate conversations revealing his side of the story.

Netflix’s True Crime Spin-Off Show Could Be Even Grittier Than the Original Terrifying Series

Netflix is the go-to streaming service for true crime, and one of its most successful shows will soon have an even grittier spin-off.

The documentary will be the first time Scott discusses the tragic case, and he will do so from prison. Shareen Anderson has been investigating the case long enough to present what could be reasonable doubt, but it will be up to the viewers to determine if Scott could be telling the truth. If so, why did he take so long? In the trailer above, Anderson asks a very important question: “Why should anyone want to hear your side of the story?” Scott answers with confidence, “Because I didn’t’ kill my family.”

Other cases that have gone through the highly-valued offices of the Innocence Project include those of Adnan Syed (the subject of the podcast Serial) and Steven Avery of the hit Netflix series Making a Murderer. The Innocence Project was founded by Barry Scheck and Peter Neufeld, who were part of O.J. Simpson’s “Dream Team” of defense.

Face to Face With Scott Peterson
will premiere exclusively on Peacock on August 20, 2024.
