As fans prepare themselves for the “most Deadpool” Deadpool movie yet, Reynolds has been sharing how one aspect of filming with his best buddy Jackman actually terrified him. The chemistry between Reynolds and Jackman has already been a highlight for fans outside their new joint venture, and teasers for the upcoming movie has hyped up the fans for this year’s only MCU offering.
As the movie officially makes MCU history as the first R-rated movie in the franchise, Reynolds recently spoke to People about his awe for his Australian co-star, but also revealed that the physicality of Jackman was something that terrified him to the point he fully believed that he could die at any moment. Reynolds said:
“When Hugh Jackman is coming at you at 150 Australian miles per hour, you feel like there’s no way you’re not going to be dead in four seconds. And I will never forget that. And thank God I’m in a mask, because under the mask my face is going, ‘Oh God!’”
At the age of 55, and having played the often angry Wolverine for almost a quarter of a century, Jackman went through some rigorous and intense training to get back in shape to play the character that he has become synonymous with. This is reason enough for Reynolds to be quite daunted by the sight of Jackman in full costume charging at him like a raging bull.

While they are best friends, Reynolds was still very impressed with the way Jackman prepared for his return as Wolverine. The physically demanding role, along with some heavy-duty stunt work, was something Reynolds was in awe of. Speaking directly to Jackman during the interview, Reynolds said:
“I couldn’t believe what I saw with what you did physically for this movie. Not just the aesthetic transformation that’s amazing, that’s incredible, that anyone could do that but just the sheer relentlessness that you dedicated yourself towards stunts choreography, I, it was the first time I’d ever seen how invaluable and I hope any young actors are listening to this, how invaluable a background in song and dance is when you were doing an action movie.”
You hit your marks in those fight scenes with speed and confidence the likes of which I have never seen I don’t care if you were 25, 35, 45 or I could not believe what I saw.
So far, all indicators suggest that Deadpool & Wolverine is going to be one of the saviors of the 2024 box office, which has failed to project many runaway box office successes to date. The film will also be a strong indicator as to just how much of a pull the MCU can have again following its dismal run in 2023. All eyes are now on Reynolds and Jackman to deliver the movie they have promised when it opens in cinemas on July 26.
