Mandalorian & Grogu Movie Won’t Include a Major Season 2 Plot & Character

The Mandalorian & Grogu will continue the storyline across the popular Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, but it looks like one fan-favorite character won’t return. The Mandalorian & Grogu is Star Wars’ return to the big screen, set to open in theaters seven years after the release of the last film in the franchise, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Even though Star Wars has been absent from the big screen, it has been thriving on Disney+, in an era which began with The Mandalorian in November 2019 and led to spin-off series like The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and the upcoming Skeleton Crew.

During the Chicago Fan Expo, via ScreenRant, actor Temuera Morrison confirmed he won’t be appearing in The Mandalorian & Grogu. Morrison originally played Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones and has since appeared as all clone characters that derived from Jango Fett in live-action, from The Clone Troopers in Revenge of the Sith to Boba Fett in both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Speaking during the Chicago Fan Expo panel “From Clone Troopers to Bounty Hunters,” Morrison revealed that he would not be in The Mandalorian & Grogu and also hinted that Disney and Lucasfilm have not reached out to him about reprising his role for The Book of Boba Fett Season 2.

Where Boba Fett Could Return in Disney’s Star Wars Universe

The Mandalorian & Grogu is an interesting prospect, as it seems Disney is forgoing a traditional Season 4 of the show in favor of a big screen blockbuster spectacle. Footage at D23 confirmed the inclusion of Zeb, a character who originated in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels and made his live-action debut in The Mandalorian Season 3. Sigourney Weaver was in talks for a major role in the film, but nothing has been confirmed since.

Many are curious about what story is big enough to take the show to the big-screen. Yet, this is not the only Star Wars film set to be adapted from the Disney+ series. Dave Filoni is set to direct an untitled Star Wars film that will serve as an Avengers-style crossover event film between The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and Skeleton Crew, with rumors swirling that it will be a loose adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire novels. Boba Fett could be a major character in that film, as his presence would certainly help draw in general movie audiences who might not have seen all the Disney+ series but do recognize Boba Fett as a Star Wars legacy character.

Bo-Katan herself is finally talking about possibly appearing in The Mandalorian movie.

This is not the first time Morisson has announced his displeasure with how the character of Boba Fett has been treated. He recently explained how he would like to come on to The Mandalorian and “steal an episode” of the show after The Book of Boba Fett dedicated an entire episode to following The Mandalorian character. Boba Fett could appear in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the next Disney+ Star Wars series, yet the best chance is for him to have a role in Ahsoka Season 2, setting the stage for Dave Filoni’s Star Wars team-up film.

The Mandalorian & Grogu
opens in theaters on May 22, 2026.
