In a 2012 interview with Conan O’Brien, Peele discussed meeting Obama for the first time, and how shocking it was to him that he was not only aware of the show but was quite the fan of his impression.
“I couldn’t even believe that he saw our show. … He wanted to meet us, very specifically,” Peele said at the time. “It was crazy. We got to meet him.”
During their meeting, per Peele, Obama joked that he needed to employ the skills of Luther, another character from Key & Peele who served as the “anger translator” for Peele’s Obama. Later, Obama got his wish.
