Poker Face Season 2 Adds Breaking Bad, Batman & MCU Stars to Cast

Rian Johnson’s Peacock mystery/crime series Poker Face is bringing the star power once again for season two. The Emmy-winning series stars Natasha Lyonne as a woman on the run from the mob, who finds herself in a new place in every episode, inexplicably solving crimes along the way. As was the case last season, an impressive lineup of actors will appear as guest stars in the coming season, including familiar faces from Breaking Bad, Batman Begins, and Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

According to a report by Deadline, season two of Poker Face will feature guest stars Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul), Katie Holmes (Dawson’s Creek), Gaby Hoffmann (Transparent) and Kumail Nanjiani (Only Murders in the Building). Filming for the second season officially began on July 1, and with each episode featuring at least one major guest star, and ten episodes in the first season, it is likely more guest star announcements are coming.

Natasha Lyonne returns as Charlie Cale, a woman with the uncanny ability to discern if someone is telling a lie. While on the run from mobsters, she stops in a new town in every episode, and tries to live a normal life. She manages to get entangled in a murder mystery, and inevitably solves the crime with her perceptive skills and sarcastic wit. Guest stars play a pivotal role in each week’s mystery, and among the notable season one guest stars are Adrien Brody, ChloĆ« Sevigny, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Barkin, Tim Meadows, and Rhea Perlman, with Judith Light winning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy for her single episode appearance in the series.

Poker Face was not only a hit for Peacock, it earned critical acclaim as well. Season 1 earned four Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Natasha Lyonne. Lyonne also earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series (Musical or Comedy).

What Can Audiences Expect From Poker Face Season 2?

In the season 1 finale, we see Charlie framed for the murder of her old boss at the casino, Sterling Senior (Ron Perlman). Ultimately cleared, an offer to work for the FBI is ultimately lost when the mobster behind Sterling Senior’s murder targets Charlie for exposing their plan, forcing her to go on the run once again in her signature Plymouth Barracuda. That sets up season two to stick to the same formula as season one, only with different antagonists lurking offscreen. The newly-announced guest stars have not had their roles detailed, to avoid revealing spoilers.

Giancarlo Esposito is best known for his iconic role as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, which he reprized for the prequel series Better Call Saul. His recent credits include Captain America: Brave New World, Parish, and The Mandalorian. Katie Holmes, meanwhile, played Joey on Dawson’s Creek for its entire run and has also starred in Ray Donovan, Batman Begins, and First Daughter.
