Squid Game Season 2 Gets Special Trailer & Answers Fan Theories

Would you like to play a game? The deadly Squid Game returns to Netflix later this year, with the Netflix Geeked Week event revealing a new trailer and poster for the upcoming Season 2, which you can check out below. The first season, released back in September 2021 to widespread critical acclaim, quickly became a pop culture phenomenon, with audiences having waited patiently for round two.

Alongside the new footage, Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-jun weigh in on the best guesses from fans about what the future holds when Squid Game returns for Season 2 in December. You can check out the interview with the key cast below.

Squid Game centers on a contest in which 456 players, drawn from different walks of life but each deeply in debt, play a set of children’s games with deadly consequences in the hopes of winning a 45.6 billion Won prize. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the show was met with praise from both critics and audiences alike and went on to receive several award nominations, including 14 nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards, with Lee Jung-jae winning for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Squid Game Season 2 will see Lee Byung-hun, Gong Yoo, and Wi Ha-jun return for more punishment, with new cast members including Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-hoon and Yang Dong-geun as well as Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won and Won Ji-an. At present, plot details for Squid Game Season 2 remain largely unknown, but creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed that it will focus on the mysterious Front Man, played once again by I Saw the Devil star Lee Byung-hun.

Squid Game Will End With Season 3

While we eagerly await the arrival of Squid Game Season 2, it has now been confirmed that the story will end with Season 3. According to reports released earlier this year, it is understood that the second and third seasons were filmed back-to-back, meaning that, mercifully, we won’t be left waiting as long for the next series.

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk released a statement at the time teasing what’s to come in Squid Game seasons 2 and 3…

“It’s been almost three years since Season 1 was met with incredible response around the world and many unimaginable events took place. On the first day we began shooting Season 2, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game.’ It almost felt surreal. I wonder how it will feel for you to be back in Squid Game after three years as well.

Seong Gi-hun who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1 returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year. I am thrilled to see that the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story. We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride.”
