The Boys & Superman Star Jack Quaid Weighs in on Homelander vs. Superman Debate

Questions over which superhero can beat who have been a staple of the genre’s fandom since its inception nearly a century ago. One of the biggest, and most interesting debates in modern times is about which blue spandex and red cape wearing superhero would win if they went head-to-head… DC Comics’ Superman, or The Boys villain, Homelander. Well, Jack Quaid believes he knows, and he’s established himself as the authority on the matter, appearing as/alongside both characters. Quaid stars as Hughie in The Boys, a powerless member of the titular team whose main adversary is Homelander (Anthony Starr). Quaid also lends his voice to Clark Kent/Superman, in the animated series My Adventures with Superman.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Quaid weighed in on the modern day clash of the titans, and gave an incredibly optimistic answer. Homelander is arguably the strongest character in The Boys universe, with powers almost identical to Superman’s (and seemingly without a Kryptonite). That level of threat is at the core of the show’s conflict. But Quaid believes his version of Superman has a chance. The actor said:

“He has to, right? Like if he doesn’t, we’re all in trouble. I think my particular version of Superman has a lot of growing to do, and he still needs to discover some more of the powers that we all know are in there but give him a few seasons, and he can take Homelander, for sure.”

While audiences may never officially see the two characters go toe-to-toe on the big or small screen, we don’t have long to wait until each re-appears in their respective universes. Quaid appeared in the interview to promote the upcoming second season of My Adventures With Superman. The animated series tells the story of Clark Kent (Quaid) developing his Superman persona, living in Metropolis, and falling in love with Lois Lane (Alice Lee). Season 2 pits Superman against Amanda Waller (Debra Wilson), the head of the infamous Suicide Squad, and tests Kent’s friendship with Lois Lane and Jimmy Olson (Ishmel Sahid) when Krypton returns.

The Boys Renewed for Season 5 on Prime Video

The hugely popular superhero series The Boys will return for a fifth season.

Quaid also returns in Season 4 of The Boys, which drops on Prime Video on June 13. Season 4 looks to turn the tide of The Boys’ battle against Vought’s superheroes, as Hughie and Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) discover a new virus which can supposedly kill supes. Quaid recently appeared in an interview with Collider to promote the upcoming fourth season, describing it as his favorite so far. Quaid said:

“”You need to brace yourselves at all times when watching the show. I don’t think there’s any other way to watch it. We all know the drill at this point.”
