Wesley Snipes Snatches Major Marvel World Record From Deadpool & Wolverine Star Hugh Jackman

Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Deadpool & Wolverine.

Blade star Wesley Snipes has now snatched a major record from X-Men and Deadpool & Wolverine star Hugh Jackman, thanks to his surprise cameo in the hit MCU Sequel. Following his historical return, the Guinness World Records has revealed that Snipes now holds “the record of longest career as a live action Marvel character.” A record previously held by Jackman.

Thanks to his comeback in Deadpool & Wolverine, during which he is one of the characters living in ‘The Void’ alongside various other former Marvel heroes and villains, Snipes’ return “comes 25 years 340 days after he first played the character in Blade (1998).” According to the records body, Jackman, whose first appearance as Wolverine happened 24 years ago in 2000’s X-Men, was expected to take the record from his Logan co-star Sir Patrick Stewart upon the release of the Deadpool outing. Alas, Blade proves once again that some “motherf*ckers are always trying to ice-skate uphill.”

In fact, following Deadpool & Wolverine, Snipes has now entered the Guinness World Records not once, but twice, with the Blade star having now “also earned him a record for the longest gap between character appearances in Marvel films” after disappearing for 19 years 231 days. He snatches this record from Spider-Man 2 star Alfred Molina, who was absent for 17 years before returning for Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.

Wesley Snipes Thought His Blade Days Were Well & Truly Over

Wesley Snipes’ return to the world of Marvel was certainly one of the biggest surprises in the surprise-filled Deadpool & Wolverine. With a reboot starring Oscar winner Mahershala Ali now in the works, nobody expected to see Snipes back as the Daywalker. Even Snipes himself was shocked by his return, with the action star recently saying to EW that he never thought he’d play the character ever again.

“I did not think it was possible. I didn’t think we would be able to pull it off. I didn’t think that Marvel was into it, Disney was into it — also because they had Mahershala cast for the next upcoming version of it. I thought it didn’t make sense to me, but [when] you get a call from Ryan Reynolds out of the blue after 20 years, you go, ‘Okay, I got to take this call. Let’s see what this is about. He told me the idea… They said ‘yes’ and ‘it’s a go.’ ‘If you’re in, we’re in.’ Here we are.”
