Peacock’s upcoming Apples Never Fall series has released a full trailer, featuring the all-star cast of Annette Bening, Sam Neill, Alison Brie, and Jake Lacy; all seven episodes premiere March 14, 2024 on Peacock. The limited series is an adaptation of the Liane Moriarty novel of the same name. Apples Never Fall is a #1 New York Times Bestselling Novel, with over a million copies sold worldwide. Moriarty authored two previous novels that were adapted for the screen: Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers. You can watch the trailer above and check out new quotes and images below.

The synopsis reads as follows:

Apples Never Fall
centers on the Delaneys, who from the outside appear to be an enviably contented family. Former tennis coaches Joy (Bening) and Stan (Neill) are parents to four adult children. After decades of marriage, they have finally sold their famed tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives. But after Joy disappears, her children are forced to re-examine their parents’ marriage and their family history with fresh eyes.”

Brie and Lacy will portray two of Joy and Stan’s four children: Brie will play Amy, the elder Delaney child whose character description describes as “the black sheep of the family” and “a mess.” Lacy has been cast as Troy, the second-oldest child of the Delaneys, a tennis player turned venture capitalist.

Melanie Marnich, who is adapting the book for the series, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Heyday Television’s David Heyman, Moriarty, Albert Page, Jillian Share, and Chris Sweeney also serve as executive producers. Sweeney will direct multiple episodes. Marnich has released the following statement:

“I’ve never been able to resist a story that feels like an immersive vacation from life…and yet is deliciously about life. Enter: Apples Never Fall, by Liane Moriarty.

The riveting and twisty mystery is anchored by the Delaney family, whose wit, wounds, yearning and complexity made me want to translate this great book to television and made me feel like the Delaneys had something to say to all of us. Through them, this story dives into the complexities of love, long-term marriage, and the struggle to define oneself within — and beyond — family. It was thrilling to write about the truly grown-up issues the Delaneys are grappling with, like the sometimes brutal sacrifices parents make to keep a marriage and family together. We also take the gloves off when capturing what it takes to be a working mother and wife as we follow Joy into the mystery at the heart of this show.

Ultimately, Apples Never Fall is a very honest show about what it means to be a part of a very complicated family. Which is every family, right? As we always said in the writers’ room… Something really bad might’ve happened at the Delaney’s…but you still wanna swing by for a gin and tonic.

Thank you for watching. I hope you enjoy it.”

Characters By
Liane Moriarty

Executive producer David Heyman had this to say about the series and Moriarty’s novel:

Apples Never Fall
is Liane Moriarty at her very best and I am immensely grateful and proud that she has given me the opportunity to bring it to the screen. Watching the Delaney family — whose perfect veneer masks a myriad of secrets — as they begin to unravel is at times wickedly funny, at others tender and moving, but always gripping.

“Liane’s characters are vivid, complex and the story she tells is about how those we hold dearest can hurt us the most,” continued Heyman. “These all seemed to me like ingredients for compelling television. And our sensational showrunner Melanie Marnich, along with our incredible cast led by Annette Bening and Sam Neill have brought the book to life in the most thrilling and affecting way.”

Bening is currently nominated (alongside co-star Jodie Foster) for Best Actress at the Academy Awards for her role in the film Nyad. Brie is best known for her roles on Community, Mad Men, and GLOW. For her work on the latter, she earned Golden Globe nominations in 2018 and 2019. The series, which followed a crew of female wrestlers, was abruptly canceled in Oct. 2020 due to difficulty with Covid-19 protocols. Brie called the series’ cancelation “the great heartbreak of [her] career.”

Her other credits include roles in Promising Young Woman, The Disaster Artist, and The Post. Recently, she has expanded her efforts to producing and writing with Spin Me Round, Horse Girl, and most recently, Somebody That I Used to Know. She also acted in all three films.

Lacy most recently starred in Peacock’s Friend of the Family, giving one of the greatest performances of the year as the manipulative, charming, and pedophilic Robert Berchtold. He gained recognition when he starred as Pete Miller in the final season of The Office, as well as his wonderful performance in The White Lotus, for which he earned an Emmy nomination.

All seven episodes of Apples Never Fall premieres on Peacock March 14.
