Adam Sandler Confirms Travis Kelce Cameo in Happy Gilmore 2

Happy Gilmore 2 is slated to go into production next month, but before things even get started, Adam Sandler has revealed that Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce will have a cameo in the upcoming sequel. Netflix greenlit the film earlier this year, with Sandler set to reprise his role as the titular character from the 1996 comedy classic, which is to be directed by Kyle Newacheck of FX’s What We Do in the Shadows fame.

Sandler appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, where Kelce’s potential cameo in Happy Gilmore 2 was brought up by the late night host. “We have a nice something for Travis,” Sandler said. “He’s gonna come by.” Sandler went on to heap praise on the football star, who was not only propelled into the spotlight during the 2023-24 NFL season thanks to the amazing performance by the Chiefs, but also for his relationship with global superstar Taylor Swift.

He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud and he’s so funny.

Sandler co-wrote Happy Gilmore 2 along with Tim Herlihy, and also mentioned that a few pro golfers would show up in the movie. Plot details remain under wraps for now, but shooting is expected to begin next month and last until November, which means fans can look for it to drop on Netflix at some point in 2025.

Adam Sandler Doesn’t Want to Let Anybody Down With Happy Gilmore 2

Praised as one of Adam Sandler’s best comedy films, Happy Gilmore centers on a failed hockey player-turned golfer who finds success as a pro, much to the chagrin of those that have been doing it for years. Remembered fondly by many thanks to a legendary scene involving a fight between Sandler and the late Bob Barker, Happy Gilmore also starred the likes of Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin, Happy’s arch nemesis. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed if he’ll be appearing in the sequel, all signs seem to point to yes, with McDonald taking a number of shots at Sandler’s character on social media.

Sandler says he just wants to make something that won’t let anybody down, which is why the project took nearly 30 years to get going. Once an idea took hold, which could possibly center around Happy putting his way through a senior golf tournament, he said that he and Herlihy did their best to bring fans a worthy sequel.

“It’s good. We worked hard on the script, man. We didn’t want to let anybody down. People have been asking me for a long time, ‘Do Happy Gilmore 2,’ and I was always like, ‘Nah, I’ll only let you down.’ But then me and my buddy, Tim Herlihy, we came up with the idea. We’re really excited about it, we wrote our asses off, we’re continuing to try to make it a movie that you guys will like.”
