Elliot Page Adapting Fan-Favorite Sci-Fi Novel Into New Movie

Elliot Page‘s production company, Pageboy Productions, has optioned the acclaimed YA sci-fi novel The Darkness Outside Us for a feature film adaptation. The novel, written by Eliot Schrefer, is the first book in the ongoing The Darkness Outside Us series, with the sequel scheduled to be published this October. The sci-fi/romance novel follows two men from warring countries who are confined in a spacecraft on a rescue mission to Jupiter’s moon Titan.

The news came via The Hollywood Reporter, with a statement from Elliot Page, Matt Jordan Smith, and Tuck Dowrey, saying, “We are proud to stand behind Eliot’s remarkable work.The Darkness Outside Us is exactly the type of story we want to champion at PAGEBOY – it’s subversive and deeply human at its core.” The trio (who oversee and operate Pageboy Productions), went on to describe the novel as “a complex love story, inventive thriller, and a space epic with twists at every turn.”

The announcement came with a statement from Eliot Schrefer, who said “what would I hope for most for my novel? An agile, young, motivated production company that’s buzzy in Hollywood—and that’s just what I got with PAGEBOY Productions.” No production timeline or potential release window has been announced for The Darkness Outside Us yet, but Page, Jordan Smith, and Dowery remarked, “we cannot wait to take the next steps towards getting it on the big screen.”
