Every TV Show Coming to HBO Max in May 2024

Time and again, Max continues to deliver on the quality of its television series. Thankfully, next month doesn’t appear to be any different, even if the selection of scripted programming is small. With the slew of shows headed to the platform in May, subscribers most certainly have plenty to be excited about. With two popular series making a return and one spinoff venturing into new territory, subscribers won’t be disappointed.

While Max’s April releases featured shows with men at the helm, May’s offerings put women front and center. Whether they’re making viewers laugh or scaring them out of their seats, several series next month have women at its core. However, that’s where the similarities end, as each show belongs to drastically different genres. Despite the short list of options heading to Max in the coming weeks, subscribers should be excited about what’s headed their way.

Hacks (Season 3)

Stream on May 2

Hacks is an award-winning series about a legendary Las Vegas stand-up comic named Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) who needs to re-invent her outdated act if she doesn’t want to lose her residency at the Palmetto Casino. This prompts her to hire Ava (Hannah Einbinder), a young comedy writer who has recently lost her previous position. Given Ava’s self-centered, entitled, and arrogant demeanor, she and Deborah don’t necessarily start off on the right foot. However, they slowly bond as Deborah begins to step out of her comfort zone and take more risks with her career because of Ava. In turn, Deborah helps Ava begin to work through some of her own personal problems.

As the show returns for a third season, Deborah is now at the top of her game and hotter than ever, while Ava begins to pursue other opportunities in Los Angeles, although they clearly won’t be separated for long. Even though Deborah fired Ava at the end of last season, all so Ava could reluctantly pursue her own career, they are inevitably brought back together. There’s no denying the pair’s unique bond brings out the best in both of them, and the upcoming season is sure to highlight that even more once the two are reunited. Hacks Season 3 is streaming on Max on May 2.

Selena + Restaurant (Season 1)

Stream on May 2

Selena + Restaurant is a new unscripted series that follows Selena Gomez on her latest personal cooking journey. A follow-up to her previous series, Selena + Chef, Selena is shifting gears slightly. After working with numerous amazing chefs in her home kitchen, her latest show will follow her as she ventures into some of Los Angeles’ biggest restaurants.

Along with her friend, Raquelle Stevens, she’ll work in a different restaurant each week and put her skills to the test. Not only will she experience what it’s like to work behind the scenes, but she’ll also work to create a signature dish that will hopefully be good enough to land itself on the restaurant’s menu.
